How to make Green Tea Powder from fresh tea leaves

  • Prepare fresh tea leaves

Use scissors to cut off the stems and veins of the leaves to reduce the bitterness and make the green tea powder smoother.

Then, wash the tea leaves with clean water and soak them for about 10 minutes in salt water (to remove bacteria sticking to the tea leaves), then rinse again before letting them dry.

Note: On average, 1kg of fresh tea leaves yields about 100g of green tea powder.
Step 1 Prepare fresh tea leaves Green Tea Powder from fresh tea leaves
  • Grind fresh tea leaves

Put all the fresh tea leaves into a blender, add a little water (about 1/4 cup is enough) and press the meat grinding button (or high speed).

You can press the button 1 – 2 more times after the tea leaf mixture has been finely ground to ensure that the mixture is no longer chunky.

Step 2 Grind fresh tea leaves Green Tea Powder from fresh tea leaves
  • Filter the mixture

First, use a piece of cloth (baby cloth) to squeeze the mixture you just blended to extract the tea juice.

Then, use a sieve to further filter the tea juice you just extracted, which helps the green tea powder become smoother, and then put it in a bowl.

Step 3 Filter the mixture Green Tea Powder from fresh tea leaves
  • Sun-drying ground tea leaves

Place a bowl containing the ground tea leaf extract outside in the strong sun to allow the steam to evaporate completely; what remains is the green tea powder.

    Note:
    • Avoid letting insects or dust settle on the bowl of ground tea extract while it’s drying in the sun; you can choose a suitable spot to place it or cover it with a net (if convenient), but make sure it gets plenty of sunlight!
    • Avoid placing it in windy areas.

The green tea powder made from fresh tea leaves using this method also has a vibrant green color, which may have a slight yellow tint and is fine in texture. Additionally, if the leaf veins and stems are not thoroughly removed, you may notice a slightly bitter taste when drinking.

How to make Green Tea Powder from Dried Tea Leaves

    • Prepare Fresh Tea Leaves

Rinse the fresh tea leaves once with water, then soak them in a bowl of diluted salt water for about 15 minutes to remove bacteria. After that, rinse them with clean water several times and let them dry.

      • Sun dry for about 3 times, avoid direct sunlight as it will wilt the tea leaves.
      • You can use a microwave to dry the leaves until they are dry and crispy.

Use your hands to crush the tea leaves and remove the veins (if you want the green tea powder to be less bitter and finer).
