First, cut the watermelon in half. Use a hand blender to blend one half to extract the juice, then place the blended watermelon in a zip bag and put it in the freezer of the refrigerator for 5 hours.

Tip: If you don’t have a hand blender, you can cut the watermelon into small pieces and put it in a blender to extract the juice.

For the remaining half of the watermelon, use a melon baller to scoop about 10 round watermelon balls for decoration on the bingsu. The leftover watermelon in the half can be scooped into bite-sized pieces using a regular spoon, in any shape you like.

Tip: Remember to keep the watermelon rind to use as a bowl for the bingsu for a nice presentation.

How to choose fresh and delicious watermelons

  • Red, sweet watermelons are usually ripe ones with small and withered stems, round and shiny skin, clear black stripes, or brown spots and bee stings on the fruit’s body.
  • You should choose ones with a yellow or cream-colored bottom. Additionally, check if the bottom is indented; the more indented it is, the sweeter the watermelon will be.
  • If it feels heavier than it looks when you hold it, and it makes a “thump thump” sound when you knock on it, it will definitely be a juicy watermelon.
  • Do not buy those that are soft and mushy, with fresh green stems, or those that feel lighter than their appearance.
