How to make Squid Tomato Porridge
-
Prepare the ingredients
Fresh squid you buy should be washed with water, drained, and then sliced thinly.
The pineapple you buy should be peeled, eyes removed, rinsed briefly to clean off dirt, then cored and sliced thinly.
Tomatoes and ginger should be peeled and washed clean. Remove the stem and seeds from the tomatoes and cut them into small strips. Slice the ginger into 3 – 4 thin pieces.
Remove the roots from the celery, wash thoroughly to remove dirt, drain well, and then chop finely.
-
Sauté the ingredients
Place a pan on high heat until it’s hot, then add 1/2 tablespoon of olive oil into the pan. When the oil is hot, add the tomatoes and squid, stir quickly for about 2 minutes, and when you see the squid starting to firm up, add the pineapple, reduce the heat slightly, and stir evenly for 5 – 10 minutes.
When the tomatoes and squid are cooked, add the sliced ginger and chopped celery, stir evenly for another 2 minutes, then turn off the heat and remove the ginger slices.
Tip: Ginger helps to create a fragrant smell and eliminates the fishy smell of squid. When cooking for children, remember to remove all ginger after sautéing to avoid leaving any behind, as it can create a spicy taste that’s hard for kids to eat when blended.
-
Blend the ingredients
Add the stir-fried ingredients into the blender, add about 4 tablespoons of hot water and blend the ingredients until smooth.
-
Cook the porridge
Wash 4 tablespoons (about 2 handfuls) of rice and put it in a pot with 2 bowls of water.
Turn on high heat to boil for 5 – 10 minutes, skim off any foam that rises (if any), then turn off the heat and cover the pot to let the rice expand and soften.
Tip: To cook soft, delicious, and smooth porridge for your baby, you should start cooking the porridge early, about 3 – 4 hours before mealtime. This way, after the porridge is covered and kept warm in the pot, it will be very soft and delicious.

How to Clean Squid and Eliminate Fishy Smell
- To clean squid properly, first remove the head, ink sac, and internal organs. If you accidentally break the ink sac, wash it thoroughly with water. Next, use a knife to cut off the squid’s eyes and the hard round mass in the middle of the squid’s head (known as the squid’s beak). You can choose to leave the squid’s skin on or peel it off. To peel the skin, make a light cut at the head of the squid’s body to create a seam between the skin and the flesh, then hold the flesh with one hand and peel the skin off with the other. Rinse the squid after cleaning several times to remove any slime and dirt.
- To eliminate the fishy smell of squid, combine crushed ginger, 1 tablespoon of salt, and 1 tablespoon of white wine, rub the squid with this mixture, and then rinse with water.
- Additionally, to keep the squid odor-free, after cleaning it, marinate the squid with 2 teaspoons of sesame oil and a little wine for 5 minutes, then rinse briefly and proceed to cook the squid.
