How to make Beef Stir-Fried Rice Balls

  • Mix the rice

    Put hot rice into a large bowl, mix well with 2 teaspoons of sesame oil, 2 teaspoons of crushed roasted sesame seeds, and 1/5 teaspoon of salt (or a small pinch of salt taken with your fingertips).

    After mixing, let the rice cool; during this time, prepare the minced beef.

  • Marinate the beef

    Put minced beef into a bowl and mix well with 1 tablespoon of soy sauce, 1 tablespoon of rice wine, 1 tablespoon of sugar, 1/2 teaspoon of sesame oil, 1 teaspoon of minced garlic, and 1/2 teaspoon of ground pepper. Marinate for about 10 minutes to allow the meat to absorb the flavors.

    Tip: You can buy pre-ground beef or buy whole cuts of beef to chop yourself.

  • Stir-fry the beef

    Add 1 tablespoon of cooking oil to the pan, turn on the stove to medium heat to heat the oil. Add the minced beef and stir-fry for about 5 minutes until the meat is fully cooked, then transfer the meat to a plate.

  • Forming rice balls

    Divide the rice into 4 equal portions, wear gloves and shape the rice into round balls. Divide the stir-fried minced beef into 4 equal portions as well.

    Press the rice down flat. Scoop 1 portion of minced beef into the center of the rice piece, then wrap the rice around the beef and roll it to form a round rice ball.

    To make it easier to pan-fry, press the rice ball down to about 2 finger lengths, pressing the sides to create a triangular shape.

    Repeat the same process with the remaining ingredients.

    Note: During the rice ball shaping process, hold tightly so that the ingredients stick together.

  • Pan-frying rice balls

    Heat a non-stick pan, place the rice balls in the pan and grill on low heat, turning them until the rice is evenly golden brown on both sides.

    Beef rice balls have a crispy outer layer, with soft and chewy rice on the inside, blending with the rich and appealing beef filling.

How to prepare Pan-fried Beef Rice Balls

  • Prepare the beef

    Wash the beef thoroughly and cut it into pieces about 1/2 finger thick. Use a meat tenderizer to make the beef softer and absorb the seasoning better.

    How to prepare to reduce the smell of beef:

    Method 1: Soak the beef in wine for 15 minutes, then rinse with clean water.

    Method 2: Put the beef in a pot of water, heat it up, then take it out and rinse it to reduce the smell. Note that you should only heat it to about 50 degrees Celsius, not boil it.

    Method 3: Use lemon or vinegar to rub on the beef for 5-7 minutes, then rinse with clean water.

    Method 4: Roast a piece of ginger, then pound it and rub it on the beef, then rinse it clean.
