How to Choose Fresh Ingredients
How to choose fresh carrots
- You should buy carrots that are of moderate size, straight and elongated towards the tail, with smooth skin that feels firm and slightly hard when held.
- Select carrots that have a bright, deep orange color, and the leaf stems that are still fresh and firmly attached to the body of the carrot.
- Avoid selecting carrots with wilted or bruised stems, damaged bodies, slimy texture, or dark spots, and those that feel soft when pressed.
How to choose fresh and delicious corn
- For this dish, you can choose either American corn or sticky corn, however, American corn will have a beautiful color and the kernels are crispy, sweet, and fresher.
- When buying corn, you should select fresh ears, with the outer husk still green and not dried out, the corn silk should still be soft and smooth, and the stem should not be dark or wilted.
- Choose ears with tightly wrapped outer husks around the kernels inside. You also need to pay attention to the kernels; they should be plump, uniform, shiny, and straight.
- You should not choose corn that is too big; instead, select ears that are moderately long and firm.
- If you don’t have time, you can use sweet corn – canned corn is also fine.
How to choose fresh and delicious green beans
- You should choose green beans that are bright green, look fresh, with a firm and crisp texture, and the seeds inside should be moderate, not too large or too small.
- Good green beans typically have a long, flat shape and are not bumpy with round spots.
- Avoid choosing green beans that have a smooth, shiny exterior, are low in fuzz, and do not have signs of pests or dark spots, as they may have been sprayed with pesticides, which is not good for health.

Prepare the ingredients
For the corn, after purchasing, peel it, clean the silk, then proceed to separate the kernels from the cob, wash them with water, and let them drain.
Simple way to separate corn kernels without breaking them
- Method 1: After cleaning the corn, place it on a cutting board, hold it with one hand and roll the corn while using a knife with the other hand to cut off the kernels.
- Method 2: This method is simple but takes a bit more time; you split the corn in half and carefully use your hands to separate each row of kernels from the cob.
- Method 3: Additionally, you can separate the kernels by breaking the corn in half and putting it in the microwave for about 2 minutes, then take it out and separately remove each kernel.

For the green beans, cut off both ends, then soak them in a diluted saltwater solution for about 5 – 10 minutes, then rinse thoroughly and let them drain. Use a knife to cut the beans into small pieces.
Peel the carrot, wash it, and then dice it. Sausage is peeled and then diced.
Peel the shallots and then slice them. Peel the garlic and finely chop it.
-
Make garlic onion oil
Place a pan on the stove, add 2 tablespoons of cooking oil and heat it, then add garlic and onion to sauté until fragrant.
When the onion and garlic turn golden and fragrant, turn off the heat and pour the onion oil out into a bowl to separate.
-
Cooking Mixed Rice
Measure 2 bowls of rice into a bowl. To clean the rice from dirt, rinse it with water about 1 – 2 times. Next, place the rice into the rice cooker, then add 1/2 of the oil with garlic and onion mixture on top of the rice and spread it evenly.
Next, arrange the vegetables such as green beans, carrots, corn, and diced sausage on top.
Add 3.5 cups of water, 1 tablespoon of seasoning, 1/2 tablespoon of salt, and 1 teaspoon of ground pepper into the pot. Close the lid, press the “Cook” mode, and cook the rice as usual.
-
Making the Sauce
Heat a pan on the stove, add the remaining oil with garlic and onion, and heat it up, then add 100ml of soy sauce, 1 tablespoon of seasoning, 50g of sugar, and a little bit of chili powder (to taste), then stir well.
Cook over medium heat until the sauce mixture boils and thickens slightly, then turn off the heat.
-
Completion
After the rice is cooked and switched to “Warm” mode, open the lid and fluff it well.
Scoop the rice out, then drizzle a little of the sauce you just made on top, and decorate it nicely to complete the dish.
-
Final Product
The rice is fragrant, soft, mixed with vegetables, American corn, and chewy, crispy sausages, combined with the rich, slightly spicy flavor of the mixed sauce, creating a perfect harmony in a dish.
