Pandan leaves 100 gr (pandan leaves) Filtered water 200 ml

How to choose fresh pandan leaves

  • When selecting pandan leaves, you should choose large, long leaves with a dark green color to obtain a deeper green color and more fragrance when used.
  • Avoid choosing very small leaves, those that are too light in color, and also avoid wilted leaves that show signs of pests or insect bites.

How to make Pandan Leaf Extract

  • Prepare the pandan leaves

    100g of pandan leaves should be washed, the white root part trimmed off, and cut into pieces about 2cm long.

    Tip: To prevent the pandan leaves from being bitter, you can soak them in warm water for about 5 – 10 minutes before extracting the juice!

  • Blend and extract pandan leaf juice

    Prepare a blender, add all the pandan leaves along with 200ml of water and blend until smooth.

    Next, pour the pandan juice into a large bowl, strain the remaining pandan leaf pulp using a sieve, and use a spoon to press the pulp to extract as much juice as possible, then skim off the foam on the surface.

    Pour the pandan juice into a smaller bowl, cover tightly with plastic wrap, and refrigerate for 20 hours to obtain pandan leaf extract.

    If you don’t have a blender, you can put the pandan leaves into a mortar, add enough water to just cover the leaves, and use a pestle to pound the pandan leaves until finely crushed, then strain to obtain the juice.

    After 20 hours in the refrigerator, the pandan leaf extract will settle at the bottom of the bowl; gently use a ladle to remove all the upper liquid until you reach the dark green extract at the bottom.

    • You can put pandan leaf extract into a glass jar and seal it tightly to store for 2 – 4 days.
    • You can also place it in the refrigerator refrigerator, this way can preserve the pandan leaf extract for 7 – 10 days.
