How to prepare Turmeric soaked in honey
-
Prepare turmeric
You should cut off the damaged parts of the turmeric and trim both ends, then wash it thoroughly to remove the dirt from the skin and let it dry.
Next, you slice the turmeric into thin pieces to soak faster. If you do not have a grater, you can use a knife and cutting board to cut it, the thinner the better.
After slicing the turmeric into thin pieces, you leave it in the sun to dry for about 1 hour.
-
Soak turmeric with honey
You place the turmeric into the prepared glass jar, you should only fill the jar nearly full, do not fill it too much so that when you pour in the honey, it won’t cover the turmeric completely.
Next, you pour honey in just enough to cover the surface of the turmeric. Then seal tightly and store in a cool, dry place away from sunlight.
-
Final product
You can use the turmeric after soaking it for about 1 month. Turmeric soaked in honey has many health benefits and is also good for beauty.
Storage tips:
When opened for use, you should pour some into a small jar for regular use, and when it runs out, pour more, to avoid opening it multiple times which could lead to spoilage. Store the turmeric soaked in honey in a cool and dark place. If the weather is too hot, it should be placed in the refrigerator for storage.
Common phenomena when soaking fresh turmeric and honey
Honey fizzing:
- Most often due to the type of honey (unrefined honey), the water content in the honey, storing honey at relatively high temperatures, exposure to sunlight, or the interaction of products during transportation causing fizzing and bubbles to appear.
- This is a completely natural mechanism of honey and does not affect the quality or the internal components of the honey. Therefore, when soaking honey, if you see fizzing, it is completely normal; fizzing honey is not fake honey and can still be used.
Honey mold floating:
- The cause is due to the turmeric floating on the surface, coming into contact with air which causes mold, leading to a yellowish layer on the surface that affects the product quality. To remedy this situation, when using, ensure that the turmeric is below the honey layer. Use a wooden spoon to scoop the mixture for daily use to avoid affecting the quality of the final product.
Note: Pregnant women or those with anemia should not use turmeric soaked in honey.
