  • You should choose sweet potatoes that have a smooth skin, are not cracked or chipped, and feel heavy when picked up.
  • Additionally, you should select sweet potatoes that are round or elongated, with no indentations, and when gently squeezed, they should not be too hard because these usually have less fiber, more starch, and are sweeter.
  • You should avoid choosing sweet potatoes that are too small, long, and have indentations as they will have more fiber. You also need to be careful if you see sweet potatoes with black spots or blemishes, as this is a sign that they have gone bad.

How to choose fresh and delicious chicken breast

  • When buying chicken breast, you should choose a piece of meat that has good elasticity; when you press your hand into the chicken breast, the meat bounces back immediately, and if it feels soft to the touch, that is a sign of fresh chicken.
  • On the contrary, if pressing your hand into the chicken breast leaves an imprint and the surface feels dry, this piece of meat may have been left out for too long, lacking moisture and freshness.
  • In addition, you should not buy chicken breast pieces that are dark in color or excessively white, as these pieces may have deteriorated or been soaked in chemicals, losing their original nutritional value.

How to make Sweet Potato Oatmeal Porridge

  • Prepare the ingredients

    First, place the rolled oats in a bowl of warm water and soak for about 3 – 4 hours, until the oats swell and soften. This way, the oats will cook faster.

    Note: Do not soak the oats for too long as it will make them sour!

    After buying the sweet potatoes, wash them to remove any dirt and peel them. Then, cut the sweet potatoes into thin slices so they will cook more quickly in the porridge.

    Peel the shallots, rinse them briefly with water, and then slice them thinly.

    For the chicken breast, wash it with diluted salt water and then rinse it clean with water. Next, chop the chicken finely.

    Finally, marinate the minced chicken breast with 1 teaspoon of seasoning, 1 teaspoon of monosodium glutamate, and let it sit for about 5 minutes to absorb the flavors.

  • Cook sweet potato oatmeal porridge

    You place a pot on the stove and add 1 tablespoon of olive oil. When the oil is hot, add sliced shallots and sauté until fragrant and golden.

    Next, add the marinated chicken and stir-fry over medium heat for about 10 minutes, until the chicken is cooked and firm.

    Then, add 1 bowl (rice bowl) of water (about 220ml) along with the thinly sliced sweet potatoes into the pot, cover it, and simmer on low heat for about 7-10 minutes until the sweet potatoes are soft.

    Continue to add the soaked oats to the pot, season with 1/3 teaspoon of salt, stir well, cover it again, reduce the heat, and cook for about 5-10 minutes until the oats are cooked.

    When the water in the pot reduces to less than half, with the remaining water just slightly covering the ingredients, and the sweet potatoes and oats are soft, turn off the heat. You can adjust the seasoning to your taste.
