How to Choose Fresh Pandan Leaves

  • Prefer to choose pandan leaves that are dark green, fresh, and intact.
  • If the pandan leaves are thick, straight, and have a light fragrant smell when sniffed, then they are fresh pandan leaves.
  • Avoid choosing pandan leaves that are light in color and lack fragrance as they are usually young leaves, which won’t have as beautiful a color when cooked compared to mature pandan leaves. You should keep this in mind!
  • Do not choose leaves that are bruised, wilted, or have larvae or insect eggs stuck underneath the leaf surface as the quality of the pandan leaves will not be good anymore.
