Filtered water 500 ml Pre-mixed cao quy linh powder with sugar 150 g Coconut milk 200 ml Jelly as desired 100 g (optional)

Cao quy linh is usually sold at traditional medicine shops, you can visit the nearest traditional medicine shop and ask to buy it.

  • Mixing Cao Quy Linh Powder

    First, add 0.5 liters of filtered water into a pot, then add the Cao Quy Linh powder mixed with sugar and stir until dissolved.

    Let the mixture rest for about 5 minutes, then heat it up.

    Stir continuously until it boils, then reduce the heat and keep stirring until the mixture is thick and smooth.

    After the Cao Quy Linh is cooked, quickly pour it into molds. You can choose the shape of the mold as you like.

    Let the mold cool completely outside, then place it in the refrigerator.

  • Origin of cao quy linh:

    Cao quy linh originates from the Ham Phong era of the Qing Dynasty – China, a royal herbal remedy made from main ingredients like thổ phục linh, turtle shell, raw earth, honeysuckle, along with some other herbs. Cao quy linh resembles jelly, has a slightly bitter taste, and is black but is softer and chewier than jelly. Cao quy linh is believed to have effects like cooling the body, detoxifying, treating acne, and being good for the skin. When eaten, it is often served with honey or milk to reduce the bitterness.

    Tip for you:
    • You should use a flexible plastic mold so that cao quy linh doesn’t break when removed.
    • During the making process, do not let the water boil for too long, as it will cause the cao quy linh to have air bubbles when it sets, making it look unattractive.
    • You should store cao quy linh in the refrigerator to use gradually during hot summer afternoons.
