Ingredients for Making Pomelo Wine For 4 people
Pomelo segments 3 kg Granulated sugar 1 kg (or brown sugar)
Tips for choosing delicious pomelo with thin skin and many segments:
- Choose pomelos with a tight, shiny outer skin, slightly yellowish in color, evenly round shape, and feel heavy when held in hand; these are good, juicy pomelos with no dry segments.
- To check if the pomelo skin is thick or thin, lightly tap the skin with your fingertip; if you hear a “pop pop” sound, the pomelo has thick skin, whereas a “clack clack” sound indicates thin skin, which is what you should buy.
- Observe the bumps on the skin of the pomelo; the larger the bumps, the riper, older, and tastier the pomelo is.
- For green skin pomelos and Nam Roi pomelos, choose fruits weighing around 1 kg or more, feel firm in hand, and the size should not be too large, with tight, shiny skin, green color but with a golden sheen, and large bumps are signs of good pomelos.
Note: You can choose any type of pomelo that suits your taste for making pomelo wine, such as orange-skinned pomelo, green-skinned pomelo, pink pomelo,…
How to make Grapefruit Wine
-
Prepare the grapefruit
The grapefruit you bought, peel it clean, and take the grapefruit segments.
Note: Avoid leaving the white pith and seeds as they will make the grapefruit wine bitter during the soaking process.
-
Weigh the grapefruit and sugar
We will weigh the grapefruit and sugar in a ratio of 3:1. Layer the ingredients in a jar, alternating one layer of grapefruit with one layer of sugar until all ingredients are used up.
Tip: When putting the grapefruit segments into the jar, if you have time, you can use your hands to separate the grapefruit segments to make them fluffy. This helps the grapefruit absorb the sugar more easily, making the grapefruit wine sweeter and more enjoyable!
-
Ferment the grapefruit wine
After placing all the grapefruit and sugar ingredients into the jar, use plastic wrap to tightly cover the mouth of the jar, then put on the lid and let it ferment for 1 month.
Once the fermentation time is complete, you can strain out the grapefruit solids, keeping the liquid and pouring it into a glass bottle for storage in the refrigerator for later use.
-
Final Product
Grapefruit wine has a strong fermented grapefruit aroma, with a sweet and slightly yeasty taste.
You can add ice cubes to the grapefruit wine and drink it directly or mix it with other fruit juices for a delicious taste. But be careful to only consume 1 – 2 small glasses of grapefruit wine each day after meals to ensure good health!
Benefits of grapefruit for health:
- Boosts the immune system: Nutritionists affirm that grapefruit provides about 600% of the body’s daily vitamin C requirement. This amount of vitamin C can help you avoid colds, fevers, infections, and other ailments.
- Good for digestion: With a high fiber content, grapefruit is excellent for the digestive system. If you often encounter digestive issues like constipation, eating grapefruit will help improve this.
- Regulates blood pressure: Grapefruit contains a high amount of potassium that helps relax blood vessels and promotes easier blood circulation. Potassium is a great agent to reduce stress in your circulatory system, helping blood and heart function optimally, reducing the risk of heart attacks or strokes.
- Strengthens bones: The potassium content in grapefruit also helps keep bones strong. If you want to avoid osteoporosis in the future, start eating grapefruit now.
- Rejuvenates the skin: The vitamin C content in grapefruit is a powerful antioxidant that helps eliminate free radicals that damage cells in the body and cause your skin to age faster. Additionally, vitamin P in grapefruit can enhance the function of skin pores, helping to heal external wounds quickly and improve skin beauty.
- Helps with weight loss: Grapefruit contains a type of enzyme – carnitine palmitoyltransferase that helps eliminate fat. If you are trying to lose weight, incorporate grapefruit into your meals for faster results.
