How to Choose Good Pumpkin
- A good pumpkin usually has an orange-yellow color, mixed with dark green, yellow flesh, and a sweet, fragrant taste, with moderate firmness.
- Choose heavy, firm pumpkins with smooth skin.
- Pick pumpkins with stems that are 2 – 5cm long. Those with short stems tend to rot faster.
- Choose round pumpkins, naturally cut into relatively even sections.

How to make pumpkin flan for kids

Make caramel
Place a pot on the stove, gradually add 200gr of sugar and stir evenly with a spoon over the lowest heat until the sugar completely melts and turns a caramel color, then turn off the heat.
Next, carefully add 50ml of water to the caramel in the pot and stir well. Then, pour this caramel mixture into the mold and let it cool to set.

Steam and mash the pumpkin
With 600gr of pumpkin, peel it and cut it into small pieces about the size of a finger segment.
Then, place the pumpkin in a bowl, cover tightly with plastic wrap, and steam in the microwave for 10 minutes.
After 10 minutes, mash the pumpkin through a strainer until smooth.
Tip: If you don’t have a microwave, you can steam the pumpkin using a steamer for about 20 minutes, until the pumpkin is soft. -
Mix the egg and milk mixture
Put 3 chicken eggs and 2 egg yolks into a new bowl, then use a whisk to beat them well.
Next, add 100g of brown sugar, 1/2 teaspoon of vanilla extract and continue to stir until the sugar dissolves and the mixture is well combined.
Add 200ml of heavy cream and 200ml of unsweetened fresh milk into a small pot or pot, then place it on the stove and heat the milk mixture until warm (do not boil).
Then slowly pour it into the egg bowl, stirring while pouring until the mixture is blended. Next, strain this egg and milk mixture through a sieve to remove any residue and air bubbles.

Preheat the oven to 170 degrees Celsius for 10 minutes to stabilize the temperature.
Pour the pumpkin, egg, and milk mixture into the prepared caramel mold, then place the cake mold in a tray of hot water, with the water level covering about 1/3 of the mold.
Next, place the cake in the oven and bake at 170 degrees Celsius for 40 minutes.
