What is Sangria Cocktail?
- Sangria is known as a characteristic cocktail of Spain and Portugal.
- The term “Sangria” is derived from “sangre – blood” because this is also the dominant color of this type of cocktail.
- Traditional Sangria is made from red wine, brandy (base spirit), and fresh fruits.
- Later on, bartenders created many other versions of Sangria to bring a fresh experience to customers.
- Sangria has 3 traditional types: Sangria, Sangria Blanco, and Zurra. While Sangria is made from red wine, Brandy, and various fresh fruits, Sangria Blanco is prepared similarly, except it uses white wine instead of red wine. Zurra is made solely from peaches and nectarines.
How to choose fresh ingredients
How to choose fresh strawberries
- To choose good strawberries, you need to select those that are uniformly bright red, with plump skin, and without white mold or bruises. Additionally, the green caps should be fresh and tightly attached to the fruit.
- Good strawberries usually have a light, pleasant aroma without any signs of rot.
- Choose strawberries that are dry and clean, and avoid those that are soaked in water to ensure they are truly fresh.
- Do not select soft fruits, as soft strawberries are prone to bruising and mold quickly.
How to choose fresh yellow oranges
- Choose oranges with fresh skin; when gently squeezed, the skin should release oil.
- Fresh oranges have a distinctive fragrant smell, are juicy, and have a rich sweet taste.
- Select oranges that are round and firm; if the stem end of the orange is slightly indented compared to the rest, that indicates a juicy and water-rich orange.
- Depending on your preference, you can choose sweet or slightly sour mandarins.
How to choose fresh, delicious green lemons
- When buying lemons, smell the lemon; if it has a light, natural fragrance, then it is fresh.
- Lemons with smooth skin, bright green color, thin skin, firm and shiny, of moderate size, and feel heavy in your hand, are likely to contain more juice, be fresher, and of better quality.
- Avoid buying lemons that are dark green or have yellow spots on the skin; these are usually old lemons, and the juice may be bitter and lack sufficient sourness and fragrance, which can negatively affect health.
