What is agar powder? The difference between jelly and chewy jelly

  • Agar powder is made from natural ingredients such as seaweed, apples,…each type of jelly can be created from various products but usually originates from natural plant sources.
  • Agar powder is used to make jelly dishes, thanks to its adhesive properties that create a unique texture that is firm yet chewy and elastic.
  • Agar powder comes in 2 types: Chewy agar powder (Carrageenan powder or jelly) and firm agar powder (Agar)
  • Firm agar powder will create a firm, slightly hard texture for the product. Meanwhile, chewy agar powder will provide a softer, more flexible texture compared to firm agar powder.

How to choose delicious fresh pomegranates

  • You should choose pomegranates that are large, round, and feel heavy in your hand. Avoid selecting small ones as they are often still immature, and will taste bland and sour when eaten.
  • It’s best to choose pomegranates that have a slightly wrinkled skin, with the calyx opening wide and slightly spread; these are ripe, sweet, and have many seeds.
  • Additionally, to know if the pomegranate has many seeds, you should select those that have slightly protruding seeds; they don’t need to be smooth, those are the good pomegranates.

How to quickly and easily separate pomegranate seeds

  • Method 1: Use a knife to cut across the top of the pomegranate. When the pomegranate reveals the grooves dividing the segments, use the knife to make a long cut from the top to the bottom of the pomegranate. Finally, use your hands to separate the seeds along the cuts you just made on the fruit.
  • Method 2: Cut the pomegranate in half horizontally. Then soak the pomegranate in water, and separate each smaller segment. Finally, remove the seeds from the skin by hand.
