How to make Tu Hú Cake

  • Mix the cake flour

    Add 300gr sweet potato flour, 1 chicken egg, 2 teaspoons of sugar, 1/2 teaspoon of salt, and 200ml of hot water into a bowl and mix the ingredients well. Then knead the dough until it becomes a soft, pliable mass, with a smooth surface that doesn’t stick to your hands.

    Shape the dough into a round ball and let it rest for about 30 minutes.

  • Shape the cake

    Divide the dough into several portions, each portion about 30g.

    Use the tip of the chopstick to poke into the dough ball, hold the cake tightly to make it firm. Slowly pull the chopstick out, and the cake will take on the shape of a locust.

    Place the cake in the steamer. Bring water to a boil and place the steamer on top, cover it, and steam the cake for about 40 minutes until cooked.

    The Tu Hu cake has a solid brown color and is delicious. The cake is soft and has a nutty flavor, making it very appealing.

How to store the cake

  • Unsteamed cake: You wrap the cake tightly with plastic wrap and place it in the refrigerator. This method can keep the cake for about 1 week.
  • Steamed cake: You wrap the cake tightly with plastic wrap and place it in the refrigerator to keep it for 3 – 5 days. If put in the freezer, it can be stored for 1 week; when you want to eat, just thaw it and steam the cake again to enjoy.
