How to make Grape Wine with Sugar

  • Prepare the grapes

Wash the grapes thoroughly with water to remove all the dirt. Then, soak the grapes in a bowl of diluted salt water for about 20 – 30 minutes, then take them out, rinse with water, and let them drain.

Step 1 Prepare the grapes for Grape wine with sugar
  • Grape Juice Extraction

Use a juice extractor to extract grape juice and pour it into a glass jar.

    Note:

    • For every 4kg of fresh grapes, you will typically get about 2 liters of grape juice.
    • You can add 300ml of cooled boiled water to the remaining grape pulp after extraction, stir well, then use a sieve and a cheesecloth to extract a second batch of juice. This second juice can be stored in a glass jar and placed in the refrigerator to be made into grape juice for refreshing drinks.
    • You can crush the grapes to extract more juice.
Step 2 Grape Juice Extraction Grape Wine with Sugar
  • Grape Wine Fermentation

Add white sugar to the glass jar containing grape juice, cover it, and place it in a dry, cool place, avoiding direct sunlight.

After 4 hours, the grape juice will start to ferment, but you should leave it as is until you see the juice become clear (meaning it has fully fermented and turned into grape wine).

Use a ladle (sieve) to remove any grape pulp floating on the surface of the wine. Then, cover the jar again and continue fermenting. The longer the fermentation time, the better it tastes.

Note: Avoid sealing the lid too tightly, as it will hinder the oxidation process of the grapes. Additionally, in high temperatures and closed spaces (due to an overly tight lid), the grapes can spoil and develop an unpleasant fizzy fermentation smell.

How to Make Sugar-free Grape Wine

  • Prepare the Grapes

Wash the grapes thoroughly with water to remove all dirt. Then, soak the grapes in a bowl of diluted salt water for about 20 – 30 minutes, then take them out, rinse with water, and let them drain.

Step 1 Prepare the Grapes Sugar-free Grape Wine
  • Mash the Grapes

Remove the stems, pluck the grapes, place them in a bowl, and then use clean hands to mash them.

Step 2 Mash the Grapes Sugar-free Grape Wine
  • Fermenting grapes with alcohol

Put all the crushed grapes into a glass jar containing white wine. Seal the lid and place it in a dry, cool place, avoiding direct sunlight.

    Note:

    • Every 2 weeks, use chopsticks to stir the mixture in the jar to facilitate faster and more even fermentation.
    • Avoid sealing the lid too tightly, as this complicates the oxidation process of the grapes. Additionally, when exposed to high temperatures and a closed space (due to the lid being too tight), it can easily cause the grapes to rot and ferment with an unpleasant gas smell.
Step 3 Fermenting grapes with alcohol Grapes wine without sugar
  • Final product

The grape wine after completion will have a clear color and a strong, distinctive aroma.

Step 4 Final product Grapes wine without sugar

Notes when fermenting grape wine

  • The grapes during fermentation should not be covered too tightly but should allow some air exchange to promote oxidation. They should not be placed in direct sunlight; if covered too tightly and too hot, the grapes can easily rot and ferment with unpleasant gas. The fermentation time for grape wine with sugar will be faster than that without sugar, so the usage time will also be shorter.
  • Tips to identify spoiled wine: a sour smell, mold; a brown or light brown color (due to excessive exposure to oxygen during fermentation); the appearance of cloudy spots, with a yellow film sticking to the bottle.
  • Storage conditions: place in a dry, dark place, avoiding direct sunlight. If partially used, it should be placed in the refrigerator’s cool compartment, or better yet, stored in a wine cooler.
  • Usage time: should be consumed within 3 – 4 months from the time of fermentation (after 2 weeks).

Notes when drinking grape wine

  • Avoid overindulging, drinking too much grape wine.
  • You can drink a little grape wine before going to bed, as grape wine contains melatonin, which helps you sleep better.
  • You can drink grape wine during meals to aid digestion and enhance appetite.
  • Since grape wine usually has a high sugar content, patients with diabetes should avoid it.
  • Grape wine has a diuretic effect and is good for digestion, so those suffering from diarrhea or diabetes insipidus should not consume it.
