The area of the ground contact side of the melon is the part of the skin that directly touches the ground. Therefore, avoid buying melons that have a ground contact area that is yellowish-green, as these are immature melons.

You should choose a watermelon that is round and even in shape; if it’s long, it should be proportionately elongated.

Holding the watermelon, it should feel firm and heavy relative to its size. When you flick your finger on the watermelon, it should make a “thump thump” sound, indicating that it is ripe and delicious.
