How to choose fresh ingredients

How to choose fresh ribs

  • It is preferable to choose ribs that are small and have nice bones as this type has more meat and less bone. For soup dishes, you should select ribs with little or no fat to avoid greasiness.
  • Fresh ribs will have a light pink color, feel firm when pressed, have good elasticity, the surface of the meat is dry and slightly tacky, and does not stick to your hand when touched.
  • Avoid buying ribs that are pale green, have signs of leaking slimy fluids, soft meat fibers, or have an unusual smell.

How to choose fresh broccoli

  • Choose broccoli with a darker green color as it will taste sweeter, and the broccoli will be softer and tastier when cooked.
  • Select broccoli with a round, even shape, a high central surface, very small gaps between flower buds, and a tightly packed surface.
  • Avoid choosing broccoli that has turned yellow, has a soft stem, wilted leaves, or bruised and damaged spots because these are old or have been stored for too long and will not taste good when cooked.

How to choose fresh carrots

  • Choose carrots that are of moderate size, not too big but feel firm and slightly hard when pressed.
  • Fresh carrots are those with a deep orange color, a bright and smooth skin, and green leaves that are still fresh and tightly attached to the root.
  • Avoid selecting carrots with wilted stems, bruised bodies, slimy spots, or dark blemishes.
  • Steer clear of carrots that have large, thick leaves and stems at the base and shoulder, as these are older carrots, which will have more fibers and less nutrients.

How to choose fresh, delicious potatoes

  • Choose potatoes that are medium-sized but feel firm and heavy, with smooth skin.
  • It is advisable to select those without many dents so that cooking is faster.
  • Absolutely do not choose potatoes that have been stored for a long time, sprouted, or have turned green on the outside, as these are very toxic and can be harmful to health.
  • For potatoes that are shriveled, have wrinkled skin, and many black spots, you should also avoid buying them as they have been stored for too long and will not taste good.

How to choose fresh, delicious beets

  • Choose beets that are dark red in color, with green leaves that are dark green, have thin veins, and no brown or red edges.
  • You should select beets that are medium-sized but feel firm and heavy, with taut skin that feels hard when pressed.
  • It is better to choose those with a round bottom as they will be tastier and sweeter when cooked compared to those with a flat bottom.
  • Do not buy beets that are wilted, have lost all their leaves, and have many scratches on the body, as these have been stored for too long and will no longer have sweetness.

Methods to remove the smell of pork ribs
