Which thermos can be used to cook porridge?

In theory, a good thermos is constructed with the innermost layer made of high-quality stainless steel (301 or 304), making it safe for contact with food, whether hot or cold, so it can be safely used to cook porridge.

Thermos for cooking porridge

In addition, you should use a thermos made of good materials with effective insulation to successfully cook porridge. These are usually thermoses with 2-layer or 3-layer construction.

This type of thermos not only ensures health safety but also helps the rice grains cook evenly and soft, bringing a porridge flavor similar to traditional cooking methods.

How to cook porridge using a thermos

Step 1: Prepare the ingredients

– Sticky rice or regular rice.

– Boiling water just finished cooking.

– A thermos that has been cleaned and rinsed with warm water.

Wash the rice thoroughly with water to remove the husks and other impurities. Then soak the rice for about 3 hours to soften it, making it cook faster. If you don’t have time, you can wash the rice and cook it right away without soaking.

Step 2: Proceed to cook porridge with the thermos

Pour a little boiling water into the thermos first to prevent the porridge from sticking to the bottom. Then slowly add the washed or soaked rice into the thermos. Continue pouring boiling water until the thermos is full.

Close the lid and wait for about 3 – 4 hours.

Step 3: Final Product

After 3-4 hours, the porridge in the thermos has cooked and softened, take the porridge out into a bowl and season it to taste. You can add ingredients like shrimp or minced meat to make the porridge more delicious.

Hygiene Tips for Cleaning the Thermos After Cooking Porridge

– First of all, it is important to note that you should absolutely not use strong detergents or corrosive solutions (bleach, acetone…) to clean the thermos.

– After storing foods that leave residues like porridge, the thermos needs to be cleaned more thoroughly to avoid mold, bacteria growth, and to ensure it is ready for the next use.

Cleaning the thermos

Some effective methods to remove odors and clean the thermos:

– Method 1: Use warm water mixed with dish soap, pour it into the thermos, seal it tightly and leave it overnight. The next morning, rinse it with clean water.

– Method 2: Use newspaper and warm water. Crumple the newspaper and place it in the thermos, seal it tightly, leave it for 2-3 days, then take out the newspaper and rinse the thermos with warm water, and place it in a dry area.

– Method 3: Use 1 tablespoon of baking soda mixed with warm water, then pour it into the thermos and seal it overnight. The next day, rinse the thermos with warm water and let it dry; it will be free of unpleasant odors.

– Method 4: Use 1 tablespoon of baking soda mixed with apple cider vinegar or lemon juice, pour it into the thermos and shake it vigorously several times. Then pour this mixture out and clean the thermos again with warm water. This method is very effective for removing stubborn odors that are hard to clean from the thermos.
