How to choose fresh and delicious pumpkin

  • To choose good pumpkins, you should select fruits with a yellow-orange or dark green skin, and when picked up, they feel heavy.
  • The stem should still be fresh, the skin intact, not chipped, and there should be a little sap on the cut surface for good pumpkins.
  • If you buy pumpkins to store, choose those with stems to preserve them longer. If you buy pre-cut pieces, choose those that are still yellow or orange with dense flesh as they are the good quality pumpkins.

  • Prepare the ingredients

    For the pumpkin, remove the seeds, peel it, wash it clean with water, and cut it into thin slices. For the onion, peel it, wash it clean, and chop half of it finely.

  • Sauté the onion

    Heat a pan on the stove, add 20g of salted butter, and keep it on medium heat until the butter melts. Then, add the onion and sauté evenly until soft, then cover it and cook on low heat for about 3 minutes.

  • Stew pumpkin

    After 3 minutes, add the pumpkin and 100ml of cold water, cover the pot and stew over medium heat for about 15 minutes until the pumpkin is soft.

  • Blend pumpkin with milk

    When the pumpkin is soft, add the mixture into a blender with 300ml of fresh milk and blend until smooth.

  • Cook the mixture

    Put the pot on the stove, add the blended pumpkin mixture, season with 1/3 teaspoon of salt and stir well over medium heat until the soup boils, then turn off the heat.

    Note: If the child is under 1 year old, do not add salt!

    Finally, pour the soup onto a plate and you can add a bit of whipped cream or cilantro on top for decoration according to your preference. Thus, you have completed the pumpkin soup with fresh milk for your baby.
