How to choose fresh coconuts for making bird’s nest
- You should buy fresh coconuts that have been peeled, and if they come with a lid, that’s even better as it will make the preparation easier. These types of coconuts are sold in supermarkets and large grocery stores like TasteVN, when buying, check the production date to choose a fresh coconut!
- If you cannot find already peeled coconuts, you can buy whole coconuts and use a large knife to peel them yourself. The younger the coconut, the easier it will be to peel, however, if the coconut is too young, the water may taste slightly sour, so keep that in mind!
How to Prepare Coconut Steamed Bird’s Nest
-
Prepare the Ingredients
Fresh coconuts that have been peeled should be used. Take a large and sharp knife to cut across the coconut’s flat side, pour the coconut water into a bowl, then continue to cut the coconut top round to make a lid for steaming.
Next, use a thick and sturdy spoon to scrape the coconut flesh into small strands, then transfer it to a bowl and set it aside.
Tip: You can also use raw, pure bird’s nest that has been soaked soft instead of pre-mixed bird’s nest water! -
Steam the Bird’s Nest
Put the coconut flesh back into the coconut shell, then add 2 jars of bird’s nest with rock sugar, 6 fresh ginkgo nuts, and 5 grams of goji berries. Pour a little fresh coconut water on top to ensure the water covers the surface, then place the coconut lid back on.
Boil a pot of water on the stove, place a steamer into the pot, and then put the whole coconut into the pot, cover it, and steam for 15 minutes on high heat to complete.
Note: While steaming, remember to check the water level; if the water is low, be sure to add boiling water! -
Final Product
The steamed bird’s nest with coconut water can be served hot or cold, both are delicious. The nutritious bird’s nest and fragrant sweet coconut water blend together to create a refreshing dish for your whole family.
