How to Make Black Bean Smoothie

  • Soak and Cook Black Beans

    Green heart black beans, after buying, you wash them clean with water and remove any damaged beans that float on the surface. Then place the black beans into a large bowl, pour water over to just cover the beans and soak for about 3 – 4 hours.

    Put a pot on the stove, add all the soaked black beans along with 500ml of water into the pot and cook over medium heat. You will cook the beans until they boil vigorously and foam appears on the surface, then use a ladle to skim off the foam.

    Tip: To cook the black beans faster and softer, you can add a little baking soda.

    Boil until the beans change color and become soft, then add 300gr of sugar and a little salt to balance the sweetness, stirring well to dissolve the ingredients completely.

  • Cooking black beans with coconut milk

    When the pot of black beans boils again after seasoning, add the entire 400ml of coconut milk to enhance the creaminess and aroma of the smoothie.

    Use a ladle to stir well until the black beans boil once more, then turn off the heat and add 1 vanilla pod.

  • Bagging and chilling

    Transfer all the black beans to a separate bowl and pour the coconut milk into a jug with a spout for easier bagging and chilling.

    Each bag will contain about 3 – 4 teaspoons of black beans and then pour in the coconut milk. After that, use a rubber band to tightly seal the bag and continue doing this until the smoothie pot is empty.

    Once completed, place the smoothie bags in the freezer for 3 – 4 hours, and they will be ready to take out and enjoy!

How to Make Black Bean Coconut Smoothie

  • Soak and Cook Black Beans

    After purchasing black beans, wash them thoroughly with water and remove any spoiled or moldy beans. Then, place the beans with 1 liter of water in a pressure cooker or rice cooker and simmer for about 30 – 45 minutes.

    Next, pour the bean water into a large bowl while keeping the beans in the pot. Evenly divide 400g of sugar into the pot with the beans and the bowl of water, using a spoon to stir both mixtures well.

    Then add all of the 20ml coconut milk into the bean water and stir evenly.

    Place a pan on the stove, add the mixture of black beans and sugar, stir for about 2 minutes over medium heat until the beans boil, then add all the grated coconut.

    Continue to stir until the beans are boiling and the sugar is absorbed, then turn off the heat and transfer to a bowl.

    You put 2 – 3 teaspoons of the black bean coconut mixture into each bag, pour in the bean water, and use a rubber band to tightly seal the bag. Continue this process until all ingredients are used up.

    After finishing the packing process, you place the beans in the freezer for about 2 hours if you prefer a softer texture and from 3 – 4 hours if you like it frozen, and you will have wonderfully refreshing smoothie bags.

  • When purchasing, you can gently press the beans with your hand to see if they are still firm, not hollow inside or easily crumbling, as this indicates that the beans are still fresh, delicious, and can be bought for cooking.
  • Avoid purchasing beans that show signs of mold, insect damage, or have a foul smell, as these are beans that have gone bad and have been stored for too long.
