How to choose fresh and delicious mackerel

  • Choose fresh fish with clear and bulging eyes; if the eyes are sunken or cloudy, do not buy them as they may be spoiled.
  • Fresh mackerel will have shiny, reflective scales and a reddish-pink gill color; when pressed, it should feel firm and elastic.
  • Avoid buying fish with swollen bellies, slimy surfaces, or a foul smell, as they will not be safe to eat.

How to cook Fried Mackerel

  • Prepare the mackerel

    Wash the mackerel with diluted salt water and then rinse it clean with fresh water, and let it drain.

    Tip: To cook the fish faster when frying, you can make 2 – 3 cuts on the mackerel if you like!
