Bok choy 700 gr Beef 500 gr Green onions 2 stalks Shallots 3 bulbs Garlic 4 cloves Chili 6 peppers Fish sauce 1 tablespoon Soy sauce 5 tablespoons Lard 2 tablespoons Common seasonings a little (MSG/seasoning powder/salt/sugar)

How to make Stir-fried bok choy with beef

  • Prepare the beef

    To make the beef clean and less fishy, wash 500g of beef thoroughly, soak it in dilute salt water for 10 minutes, then wash it again with water and let it drain.

    Then, use a knife to cut the beef into bite-sized pieces.

    Wash the green onions and bok choy thoroughly, then use a knife to cut the green onions into 2cm long pieces and chop 3 chili peppers.

    Add to the beef 1 clove of prepared garlic along with 1 teaspoon of monosodium glutamate, 1 teaspoon of seasoning powder, 1/2 teaspoon of salt, 1 teaspoon of sugar, and 1 tablespoon of fish sauce, then mix well and marinate for 45 minutes to absorb the spices.

  • Stir-frying the ingredients

    Place a pan on the stove, add 2 tablespoons of fat and heat until boiling. When the fat is boiling, add 3 shallots and 3 cloves of garlic and sauté until fragrant, then add the beef and stir-fry over medium heat for about 7 – 10 minutes until the meat is cooked, then remove it.

    Continue to add the stems of the bok choy to the pan and stir-fry over medium heat for about 2 – 3 minutes until the stems are cooked, then add the leaves of the bok choy and stir-fry for another 3 – 4 minutes.

    Then, add the beef and 3 chili peppers and stir-fry for another 1 – 2 minutes before turning off the stove to finish.

    Tip: To ensure the ingredients are cooked evenly and absorb the seasoning better, you should stir-fry the beef and bok choy separately as they have different cooking times.

    Wash the beef with diluted salt water, then rinse with water a few times, drain, and slice thinly.

    Remove damaged leaves from bok choy, cut into bite-sized pieces, wash thoroughly, and drain.

    Add 2 tablespoons of cooking oil into the pan, turn on the stove to high heat, when the oil is hot, add the thinly sliced beef and stir-fry for 2 minutes until it’s slightly cooked, then remove it to a bowl.

    Next, add the prepped bok choy into the pan where you just stir-fried the beef and stir-fry for about 30 seconds over medium heat until the oil coats it nicely, then add 4 tablespoons of water and stir-fry for 3 minutes until the bok choy is soft and cooked.

    When the bok choy is cooked, add the stir-fried beef back in and season with: 2 teaspoons of seasoning powder, 1/2 teaspoon of monosodium glutamate, stir well for 2 minutes for the seasoning to blend evenly, then taste and adjust the seasoning as needed before turning off the heat.

    Finally, serve the stir-fried bok choy with beef on a plate, sprinkle a little pepper to enhance the flavor, and it’s done.
