How to choose fresh sea grapes
- You can buy fresh sea grapes or dehydrated sea grapes (dried sea grapes) as mentioned in the article at supermarkets or reputable stores.
- Currently, a 500g box of dehydrated sea grapes on the market is priced from 300,000 VND to 650,000 VND (price updated on 4/5/2021).
- When buying dried sea grapes, you should choose those with a brand on the market that are well-packaged in sturdy bags and boxes.
- For fresh sea grapes, you should buy those just harvested from seaweed farms in Hon Khoi, Khanh Hoa, Dong Ha, and Hai Ninh. Since fresh sea grapes only last 3 to 5 days, you should process them immediately after purchase!
How to choose fresh beef
- You should buy meat that is red with white veins, and the fat should be bright yellow.
- Press the meat with your hand; it should be firm, not mushy, and have good elasticity.
- You should avoid buying beef that is pale green or dark red, with dark yellow fat, has tiny spots, and feels slimy to the touch.
- You need to avoid buying beef that has a foul or fishy smell, as it may be old meat.

- You can use any type of lettuce you like: Carol, butter lettuce, or leaf lettuce,… to make this dish.
- When buying lettuce, you should choose heads with vibrant green leaves that emit a light fragrance when tightly rolled, with long and thick stems.
- Additionally, clean lettuce (not treated with chemicals) usually has green leaves on the outside, with the inner layers gradually fading to pale green.
- Avoid buying lettuce with wilted leaves, where the stems start to turn yellow and emit a slight foul smell, as these are old lettuce heads or possibly those that have been soaked in chemicals and are decomposing.

- Choose tomatoes that have bright red, evenly colored skin. The outer skin should be intact, without scratches, and plump, feeling firm when held.
- Additionally, freshly picked tomatoes will still have fresh stems that are firmly attached to the fruit and are not easily detached. Naturally ripened tomatoes will have a subtle aroma that can be easily detected when sniffed.
- Avoid buying tomatoes with a strong odor or no smell, and those with slightly wrinkled skin. These are tomatoes that have been force-ripened and are starting to age, thus they will not be sweet and tasty anymore.
How to choose fresh and delicious eggs
- You can use your hand to feel the surface of the eggshell; if the surface is rough and slightly textured, then it’s a fresh egg, while a smooth surface indicates that the egg has been stored for a while.
- To check if the egg is still fresh, gently shake it; if there is no movement, the egg is fresh, while strong movement indicates that the egg is old.
- For eggs with hard shells, observe if there is a thin layer of powder surrounding the shell; if so, it is a fresh egg.
How to make seaweed salad with beef

Prepare the ingredients
Soak the seaweed in water for about 1 minute to let it expand, then rinse gently 4 – 5 times to reduce the saltiness.
Tip:- Only soak the seaweed when you are about to eat; if soaked for too long, it can shrink.
- Soaking seaweed in hot water will cause it to shrink; you should only soak it in cool water.
Pick the lettuce leaves, then soak them in diluted salt water for about 2 minutes, rinse under running water, and tear them into small pieces about 2 finger lengths long, and place them in a bowl.
Wash the tomatoes, slice them into rounds, and add them to the bowl of lettuce.
Peel the shallots and garlic, then chop them finely. Remove the old roots from the coriander, wash it, and let it drain.
Place the eggs in a pot, cover them with water, add 1 tablespoon of salt, and bring the water to a boil over medium heat.
Boil the eggs for about 8 minutes from the time the water starts to boil, then turn off the heat. To cool the eggs down, start peeling them.
How to boil eggs for easy peeling:- To make peeling the eggs easier, add 1 tablespoon of vinegar and 1 tablespoon of salt to the boiling water, making sure to add the salt and vinegar before the water boils.
- While the water is still not boiling, gently stir the boiling water with a spoon; this will help keep the egg yolk centered, making it easier to peel without exposing the yolk.
- After turning off the heat, pour out all the water, keep the eggs in the pot, cover it, and shake gently to crack the shells. Add some water to cool the eggs down, and you will be able to peel them easily.
Beef bought should be rubbed with salt for about 3 – 5 minutes, then washed clean with water, sliced thinly, and placed in a bowl.
How to clean beef and eliminate the smell- You can soak the beef in white wine for about 15 minutes, then take it out and rinse it with clean water.
- Or you can put the beef into a pot of water, blanch for about 3 to 5 minutes, then take it out and rinse it to reduce the smell.
- Use lemon, salt, or vinegar to rub on the piece of beef for about 3 – 5 minutes, then rinse it with clean water.

Marinate the beef
Marinate the beef with shallots, minced garlic, 1 teaspoon of sugar, 1 teaspoon of salt, 1 teaspoon of monosodium glutamate, 1 teaspoon of seasoning powder, and 1/4 teaspoon of pepper.
Mix well and marinate for 10 minutes for the beef to absorb the spices.

Stir-fry the beef
Put a pan on the stove over high heat, add 1 tablespoon of cooking oil and heat it.
Then add the beef and stir-fry for about 4 – 5 minutes until the meat is cooked, turn off the heat and let it cool.

Add 2 tablespoons of vinegar oil to the bowl of tomato salad.

Tip:- To avoid the seaweed from wilting, let the beef cool before mixing the salad.
