How to choose fresh ingredients
How to choose fresh and delicious shrimp
- Choose shrimp with transparent shells, slightly smelling of seawater, with legs tightly attached to the body, firm shrimp meat but not unusually fat, joints on the shrimp body flexible, not falling apart, head and body sticking tightly together.
- Avoid shrimp that are slimy and have a curved body forming a circle, when moving your finger on the shrimp shell, it feels bumpy as if there is sand.
How to choose good honey
- You should choose pure honey, check by dropping a few drops of honey into a glass of clean water; if the drops of honey form round balls, do not dissolve, and sink to the bottom of the glass, then this is real honey.
- Additionally, you can use spring onions dipped in honey; if the green onion wilts, then this is real honey.
- You should not buy honey that has turned black, has bubbles on the surface, has a strong pungent smell, and tastes sour and bitter, as this is honey that has fermented and is no longer good for health.
- Currently, there are many fake honeys on the market, and honey mixed with other substances is no longer pure, so you should choose a reputable place to buy.

How to Prepare Honey Grilled Shrimp
-
Prepare the shrimp
After buying the shrimp, you peel off the head, shell, and leave the tail intact. Then you devein the shrimp and rinse it thoroughly with clean water several times.
Quick tips for preparing shrimp and deveining- Method 1: Peel the head and shell from the legs to the tail, using two fingers to hold the last segment tightly and pull it out. Next, use a knife to cut along the back of the shrimp to expose the black vein, then use a toothpick to remove it.
- Method 2: After washing the shrimp, insert a toothpick between the shrimp’s neck and pull out the black vein, discarding it.
- Method 3: Wash the shrimp, then use scissors to cut along the shell to reveal the black vein, and rinse under running water to clean.
-
Marinate the shrimp
Marinate the shrimp with 1/4 tablespoon of salt, 1/4 tablespoon of pepper, 1 tablespoon of lemon juice, 1/2 tablespoon of grated lemon peel, 1/2 tablespoon of minced garlic, 1/2 tablespoon of olive oil, and 1.5 tablespoons of honey.
Mix well and let the shrimp marinate for about 15 minutes to absorb the flavors.
-
Skewer the shrimp
Use bamboo skewers to skewer the head and tail of the shrimp until the skewer is full.
-
Grilling shrimp
You plug in the power, turn on the switch, and heat the electric grill to 180 degrees Celsius for about 5 minutes, then brush a layer of cooking oil on the surface of the grill and place each skewered shrimp on the grill to grill them.
To prevent the shrimp from burning, remember to turn the skewers evenly every 1 – 2 minutes. Grill for about 5 minutes until the shrimp are cooked.
Tip: If you do not have an electric grill, you can grill the shrimp using a oven, air fryer, or charcoal grill as well!
- Oven: place in the oven at 180 degrees Celsius for about 10 – 15 minutes.
- Air fryer: place in the air fryer and grill for 10 minutes at 160 degrees Celsius.
