Every time the Tet holiday comes, we all want to decorate the ancestor altar beautifully to welcome a new year of peace, prosperity, and abundance, right? Today, let’s join the Cooking Tips section of TasteVN in the kitchen to learn how to make a pineapple from Oishi candy to decorate the ancestor altar this Tet!
1 Ingredients and tools
Ingredients: 3 packs of Oishi yellow candy with lemon soda flavor
Tools to use: Scissors, double-sided tape, clear tape, stiff A4 paper, a roll of green ribbon, ruler, glue stick (or glue gun), candle, 1 empty beer can
2 Steps to perform
Shaping the candy into pineapple eyes
Method 1: Use double-sided tape
Use double-sided tape to stick on the back of the candy wrapper.
Then, peel off the paper layer of the double-sided tape and fold both ends of the candy wrapper together so that the two serrated edges of the candy wrapper are parallel to each other, forming a nice triangle with the words “Oishi candy” clearly visible on the front of the wrapper.
Method 2: Use glue stick
Use a glue stick and hold it in front of the burning candle for about 4 seconds until the glue stick melts.
Dip the melted glue stick onto both ends of the back of the candy wrapper.
Then, fold those two ends together so that the serrated edges of the candy wrapper are parallel, forming a nice triangle. The words “Oishi candy” are clearly visible on the front of the wrapper, completing the process. Repeat similarly until all the prepared candies are used up.
Make a base for the pineapple
Wrap a hard A4 paper into a funnel shape, then place a ruler from the bottom of the funnel to the mouth of the funnel, measuring exactly 10 cm. Use scissors to cut it off.
Next, trim so that the mouth of the funnel that you just cut is evenly rounded together.
Then, place the mouth of the small funnel you just cut into the mouth of a beer can, measuring so that the mouth of the funnel is level with the mouth of the beer can, and use clear tape to secure the funnel in place.
Next, use double-sided tape to attach around the mouth of the funnel, then peel off the paper backing of the double-sided tape and stick the funnel to the mouth of the beer can.
Finally, to secure the funnel to the beer can, use clear tape to tape vertically around the connection of the funnel and the beer can.
Make the leaves of the pineapple
Use a ruler and scissors to cut 20 pieces of ribbon so that each piece is of equal length and 10 cm long.
Then, use scissors to cut one end of the ribbon to form a triangle shape as shown below.
Next, use double-sided tape to attach around the top of the cone, then attach the leaves you just cut with the curved side facing inward to cover the top of the cone and secure them with clear tape.
Next, you also use double-sided tape to stick around the pineapple leaves and then attach the leaves to form another circle.
Make sure the curved side of the leaves faces outward and secure it with clear tape.
Do the same until all 20 pineapple leaves are cut.
- To make the leaves curved, you can use scissors or a knife to gently scrape the ribbon after cutting.
- To make the tips of the leaves look beautiful, you should attach the rows of leaves in a staggered manner.
Making the body of a pineapple
To make the body of a pineapple, similarly, you also use double-sided tape to stick a circle around the last layer of the pineapple leaves, then stick each Oishi candy on it.
Make sure the side with the “Oishi” text is facing outwards to form a circle, then use clear tape to secure it.
Next, you also use double-sided tape to stick a circle at the base of the first layer of pineapple eyes and continue to arrange the Oishi candies on it so that the row of pineapple eyes being arranged has the candies staggered with the first row of pineapple eyes.
Finally, use clear tape to wrap around and secure the row of pineapple eyes you just created.
Similarly, continue until the distance from the last row of pineapple eyes to the bottom of the beer can is one finger width, then stop.
Making the base of the pineapple
Use a ruler to measure and cut green ribbon into 12 small pieces, each 5 cm long, then use scissors to cut one end of each ribbon into a triangle shape.
Next, you use double-sided tape to stick a circle around the base of the beer can, then attach the small leaves you just cut, making sure the curved part of the small leaves is facing outwards.
Then, you use clear tape to secure the leaves at the base of the pineapple.
Continue by using double-sided tape to cover the inner tape, then take a green ribbon to wrap around the base of the pineapple to hide the fixed inner tape, enhancing the aesthetic appeal of the pineapple.
