How to choose a good avocado:

  • It is advisable to choose avocados with a slightly yellow stem core, indicating that the avocado is just ripe and very delicious.
  • Do not choose avocados with green, shiny skin, as this indicates that the avocado is not ripe and cannot be used. Avocados that have turned brownish-purple with rough skin mean that they have started to ripen.
  • Common avocado skin colors include green-spotted yellow for water avocados, brownish-pink for common avocados, and dark shiny brown for butter avocados that feel firm in hand.
  • When choosing an avocado, hold it and gently squeeze around; if it feels heavy and firm, and soft when squeezed, then it is a ripe and delicious avocado. Shake the avocado lightly; if you hear the seed rattling inside, it is a good avocado.
