Ingredients for Steamed Sticky Rice Banana Cake For 4 people

Ripe bananas 2 fruits Sticky rice flour 170 gr White sugar 50 gr Filtered water 100 ml Cooking oil 10 ml

How to choose naturally ripe, delicious bananas without chemicals:

  • Color: Naturally ripe bananas usually have unevenly colored peels, with some areas darker and some lighter, and they have a natural fruity aroma, not a strong chemical smell.
  • Touch: Naturally ripe bananas will feel soft when you touch and gently squeeze them. In contrast, chemically ripened bananas will feel firm and not soft or mushy.
  • Banana stem: To buy naturally ripe bananas, do not just look at the stem of the bunch; instead, check the bottom stem of the banana. The bottom stem of naturally ripe bananas will be dark and slightly wilted. In contrast, chemically ripened bananas will still look fresh and green.

How to make Steamed Banana Cake with Glutinous Rice Flour

  • Mash the bananas

    Peel the ripe bananas, place them in a blender and blend until smooth, or put them in a large bowl and use a spoon to mash them.

    Then add white sugar, cooking oil, and water, mix well until all the ingredients are combined.

    Tip: You can adjust the sweetness of the banana cake by adding or reducing the amount of sugar according to your preference!

  • Mix the flour and bananas

    Sift 140g of glutinous rice flour into the bowl containing the mashed bananas along with the other ingredients from step 1, use a whisk to mix well until the banana cake mixture is smooth, without lumps.

  • Steam the bananas

    Spread a thin layer of cooking oil in the bottom of the mold holding the banana cake mixture. Pour the banana cake mixture into the mold, cover with plastic wrap.

    Place the cake mold into a steamer, and steam for about 30 minutes until the cake is cooked.

    Note: You can use a mold of any size as long as it can hold enough of the cake mixture!

  • Roasting the flour

    Add the remaining 30g of glutinous rice flour into the pan, roast the flour on low heat until it turns a fragrant golden color, then turn off the heat and let it cool.

    Sift a little of the roasted glutinous rice flour onto a flat surface, place the steamed banana cake on top, then continue to sift more roasted flour to evenly cover the surface of the cake.

    Sifting the glutinous rice flour helps reduce the stickiness of the banana cake, you can cut the cake into small pieces and enjoy it right away!

    The steamed banana cake made from glutinous rice flour has a very appealing aroma of ripe bananas. When eaten, you will feel the chewy texture of the glutinous rice flour, the gentle sweetness of the bananas and sugar.
