  • You should choose onions with thin, shiny skins, evenly colored, and when touched, feel dry and firm.
  • Choose bulbs with long roots and skins that are not peeling off but tightly attached to the onion body, as these are fresh onions.
  • Avoid buying bulbs that have sprouted, feel soft when touched, or are unevenly colored, as these are not fresh onions and may taste bitter when eaten.

How to prepare Stir-fried Shrimp with Onions

  • Prepare the ingredients

    You wash the shrimp thoroughly and carefully peel off the shell. Next, to remove the black vein on the back of the shrimp, you use a knife to cut a small line along the shrimp’s body and then rinse with water, placing it into a bowl.

    Peel the onion and cut off the root end, wash it clean, and cut into wedges about 1/2 finger thickness.

    • Method 1: You should cut onions in a well-ventilated area, perhaps under a range hood or by a window to minimize eye irritation.

    Heat a pan on the stove, add 1 tablespoon of cooking oil, wait for the oil to heat up, add the onions, adjust the heat to high, and stir-fry for 3 minutes. After 3 minutes, add 1 teaspoon of seasoning powder, stir well to let the onions absorb the seasoning, continue stir-frying for about 2 minutes, then transfer to a bowl.

    Reuse the pan you just used to stir-fry the onions, add 1 tablespoon of cooking oil, wait for the oil to heat up, then add the shrimp, and stir quickly over high heat for about 2 minutes.

    After 2 minutes, lower the heat, add 1/2 teaspoon of monosodium glutamate, 1 teaspoon of seasoning powder, and 1/2 teaspoon of salt. Stir well for about 3 minutes until the shrimp is fully cooked and absorbs the seasoning, then add the stir-fried onions, continue to stir for about 1 minute for the ingredients to evenly absorb the seasoning, taste again according to your family’s preference, and then turn off the heat.

    Serve on a plate, you can sprinkle some ground pepper or add some chopped green onions (if you like green onions) to make the dish more delicious and appealing.
