Taro 300 gr Rice flour 50 gr Tapioca flour 15 gr Unsalted butter 10 gr (melted) Chicken egg 1 piece Coconut milk 80 ml Condensed milk 50 ml Sugar 50 gr Salt 1/2 teaspoon

How to choose good, non-starchy taro

  • Choose taro roots of medium size, not too large or too small, with a fresh greenish-white stem on top.
  • You should choose round, egg-shaped taro with a rough skin, having many roots and a little dirt still clinging to the skin.
  • Choose taro with a white opaque interior that has many purple streaks.

How to make Baked Taro Cake

  • Prepare and boil taro

    First, peel the taro completely, then wash it clean and cut it into slices about 1/2 inch thick.

    Next, place the prepared taro into a pot, add just enough water to cover the surface of the taro, then put the pot on the stove to boil the taro over medium heat for about 20 – 30 minutes until soft.

  • Mix the batter

    Add 50ml of condensed milk, 80ml of coconut milk, 1 chicken egg, 1/2 teaspoon of salt, 50gr of sugar, 50gr of rice flour, and 15gr of tapioca flour into a blender, then use a hand blender or a blender to blend the mixture until smooth.

    Next, add the steamed taro and 10g of melted unsalted butter to the flour mixture and continue to blend until the mixture is smooth.

  • Pour into the mold and bake the cake

    Preheat the oven to 150 degrees for 10 minutes.

    Prepare a mold lined with parchment paper, then pour the flour mixture into it and place it in the oven to bake at 150 degrees Celsius for 50 minutes.

    After baking, wait for the cake to cool down a bit, then take it out of the mold, remove the parchment paper, and it is ready to enjoy.
