Ingredients for Birthday Cake with Watermelon Serves 8 people
Watermelon 1 fruit (round) Watermelon 1 fruit (long) Orange 1 fruit Green Plum 10 fruits Mango 1 fruit Kiwi 2 fruits Pineapple 1 fruit Grapes 6 fruits
How to Choose Good Watermelon
- Choose watermelons with proportionate ends, round and even. Conversely, avoid those with a large head and a small tail or those shaped like a gourd (narrow in the middle) as they are often not ripe and not tasty.
- Choose watermelons with wilted stems as this indicates they are fully ripe; conversely, those with fresh green stems may have been picked unripe and will not be sweet.
- Tap the watermelon with your hand; if you hear a deep “thud” sound, it indicates the watermelon is ripe. If the sound is too light, the watermelon is still immature.

How to make Watermelon Birthday Cake
-
Cut the watermelon
A watermelon cake will consist of 3 layers, so you will use 2 types of watermelon with different diameters to shape.
First, cut off both ends of the round watermelon, then remove the green skin, and neatly trim the flesh to form a cylindrical shape.
Do the same with the long watermelon.
Next, neatly trim one end of the long watermelon so that it has a smaller diameter than the other 2 watermelon layers.
-
Cut fruit for decoration
Peel 1 kiwi, 1 pineapple, and 1 mango, then use a mold to cut out the fruit flesh.
For the remaining kiwi, cut it into thin round slices.
Next, cut the orange into 4 pieces and continue to cut them into many slices about 0.5cm thick.
Finally, use a round spoon to scoop the watermelon flesh into many equal small balls, then cut them in half.

Make a birthday cake with watermelon
First, stack 3 pieces of watermelon on top of each other, starting with the largest at the bottom and getting smaller as you go up.
Then, arrange pieces of orange, green plum, and watermelon beneath the first layer of watermelon. Next, add thin slices of kiwi and pineapple.
In the second layer, alternate between kiwi and mango in flower shapes. Attach fresh orange slices to the edge at the top of the second layer.
In the third layer, continue to stack thin slices of kiwi and pineapple on top.
Finally, add grapes and green plums on top of the cake to finish.
Tip: You should use toothpicks to help secure the fruit pieces to the cake.
