How to Make Yogurt from Breast Milk

  • Heat the breast milk

First, put 100ml of breast milk (freshly pumped) into the pot. Place the pot on the stove and heat the milk over low heat for about 5 minutes, until the milk is just warm.

    Note:
    • When heating the milk, you should stir continuously to prevent the milk from burning at the bottom of the pot.
    • Do not let the milk boil to avoid losing its nutrients!

How many months can babies eat yogurt?

  • Experts agree that infants from 6 months old can eat yogurt, as this is also the age when babies start complementary feeding.
  • Yogurt is very good for children from 6 months old because it quickly provides many beneficial proteins for health. Additionally, yogurt contains many probiotics that are beneficial for the baby’s digestive system.
  • Although Greek yogurt is known as a healthy ingredient, this type of yogurt is not recommended for children under 1 year old.

Tips for successfully making and storing yogurt

  • Yogurt used as a starter culture should be brought to room temperature so that the cultures work best. Therefore, if taking yogurt out of the fridge, it should be allowed to cool to room temperature before use.
  • The milk should cool to 37 – 40 degrees Celsius before adding the yogurt. If the milk is too hot, it may kill the yogurt cultures.
  • After completing the yogurt, you should put it in glass jars and can store it in the refrigerator for about 1 week.
