How to Make Braised Vegan Ribs in Coconut Water

  • Prepare the Ingredients

    First, soak the vegan ribs in warm water for about 15 minutes to soften them. Then, take them out, rinse with water about 2 – 3 times until clean, and drain.

    Next, use scissors to cut the vegan ribs into bite-sized pieces.

    After cutting off the roots, wash the green onions, crush the white parts, and finely chop them, while the green parts should be cut into small pieces.

    Peel the garlic and then finely chop it.

  • Marinate the Ribs

    Marinate the prepared vegan ribs with 1 tablespoon of condensed milk, 2 tablespoons of vegetarian marinade sauce, 1 teaspoon of seasoning powder, 1/4 teaspoon of monosodium glutamate, 1/2 teaspoon of ground pepper, and 1/4 teaspoon of salt, mix well and let it marinate for 15 minutes.

  • Pan-fry the vegetarian ribs

    Place a pan on the stove, then add 1 spoon of cooking oil into the pan. When the oil is hot, add minced garlic and sauté until fragrant and golden.

    Next, add the marinated vegetarian ribs to the pan and fry over medium heat for about 10 minutes until the ribs are golden and charred on both sides.

  • Simmer the ribs with coconut water

    After the vegetarian ribs are charred on the edges, add 1/2 cup of coconut water and 1 tablespoon of soy sauce to the pan.

    Simmer the ribs with the coconut water over medium heat until the coconut water thickens, then season to taste and turn off the heat.

Vegetarian tender ribs 5 pieces Fresh coconut water 100 ml Minced shallots 2 teaspoons Marinade sauce for grilled dishes 1 teaspoon Vegetarian fish sauce 2 teaspoons Chili sauce 1 teaspoon Vegetarian seasoning 1 teaspoon Cooking oil 110 ml Sugar 1.5 tablespoons

How to prepare Five-spice Braised Vegetarian Ribs

  • Prepare and fry the vegetarian ribs

    First, with 5 pieces of vegetarian ribs bought, soak them in 200ml of water for about 60 minutes. When the vegetarian ribs have expanded and softened, rinse them several times with clean water and let them drain.

    At the same time, place a pan on the stove with 100ml of cooking oil over medium heat. When the oil is bubbling, add all the prepared vegetarian ribs and fry for 7 – 10 minutes, until both sides are golden, then turn off the heat and place them on a plate to drain the oil.

    Tip: To avoid the ribs becoming mushy, make sure to fry them until they are crispy!

    Next, place another pan on the stove with 2 spoons of cooking oil (10ml) left and 2 teaspoons of minced shallots to sauté until fragrant over medium heat.

    Then, add 1 teaspoon of marinade for grilling, 1 teaspoon of chili sauce, 2 teaspoons of vegetarian fish sauce, 1.5 tablespoons of sugar, and 1 teaspoon of vegetarian seasoning into it, using chopsticks to stir well until the mixture is dissolved together.

    Finally, add 100ml of fresh coconut water, and cook for about 3 – 5 minutes until the sauce thickens slightly.

    Using the same pan, when the sauce comes to a boil again, add in the 5 pieces of fried vegetarian ribs, and simmer for about 7 – 10 minutes, turning both sides until the sauce reduces and there is no liquid left, then turn off the heat and serve on a plate to finish!

    Then, place another pan on the stove with 2 spoons of cooking oil (10ml) left and 1 teaspoon of minced garlic to sauté until fragrant over medium heat.

    Next, add all the fried vegetarian ribs, 3 teaspoons of vegetarian fish sauce, 1.5 teaspoons of sugar, and 1 teaspoon of vegetarian seasoning, using chopsticks to stir evenly for 3 – 5 minutes so that the vegetarian ribs absorb the seasoning.

    Finally, add 150ml of coke and continue to stir both sides for 5 – 7 minutes, until the coke has evaporated, then turn off the heat and serve immediately!
