How to Choose Fresh Lychee

  • You should choose lychees with a pinkish-red skin, round and even shape, smooth spines; avoid choosing those with sharp spines as they are signs of unripe lychee, which will taste sour.
  • Prioritize selecting fresh bunches of lychee that have stems attached and the leaves are still green.
  • You can also check by gently squeezing; if the fruit feels slightly soft and has good elasticity, then it is fresh lychee, and you should buy it.
  • Especially, fresh lychees usually have a light, distinctive fragrance. If you smell fermentation, it indicates that the lychee is old or bruised inside, so it should not be chosen.
