  • Fresh sea crabs are those that are still alive, with the shell and claws having a dark color that is somewhat similar. Particularly, a meaty crab will have a dark orange and shiny underside.
  • Typically, crabs with a lot of meat and roe will have long claws and large spines on the shell, and they feel noticeably firm to the touch.
  • Avoid buying crabs that are too small, with a pale shell and abdomen, even slightly white, and small spines on the shell, as these are signs that the crab is immature and the meat and roe will not taste good.
  • Moreover, when pressing on the shell and abdomen with your hand, if it feels soft and especially if the shell is deformed, it is also not advisable to buy.

How to make crab pumpkin porridge

  • Prepare the ingredients

    First, take the crab you bought and use a knife to stab the crab’s belly until it stops moving, then rinse it with water to remove all the dirt, and let it drain.

    For the pumpkin, peel it and remove the seeds, then wash it thoroughly, let it drain, and cut it into small cubes. As for the shallots, just peel them, and finally chop them finely.

    After preparing the ingredients, you place a pot on the stove with 100ml of water and 100g of pumpkin that has been cut, then boil on high heat for about 10 – 13 minutes, until the pumpkin is soft, then turn off the heat, and take the pumpkin out into a bowl.

    When the pumpkin cools, you use a fork to mash the pumpkin until smooth.

    Next, you take another pot and place it on the stove with 1 cleaned crab and 200ml of water, then boil the crab over medium heat for 20 – 25 minutes, until the crab is cooked, then turn off the heat and place the crab on a plate.

    Next, rinse the plain rice 1 – 2 times with clean water to remove any remaining dirt, then soak it in water for about 20 – 30 minutes. Once the rice is soft, drain the water.

    Then, place a new pot on the stove with 2 spoons of cooking oil and 1 minced shallot to sauté until fragrant over medium heat. Next, add all the crab meat and stir-fry for 3 minutes.

    After that, add all the soaked rice along with 400ml of water, and cook the porridge for 20 – 30 minutes, until all the rice has expanded and the porridge becomes thick and smooth.

    Tip:
    • To benefit your child’s digestive system, you can use cooking oil specifically designed for children!
    • To prevent the porridge from sticking, be sure to stir it every 10 minutes.
