  • Naturally ripened tomatoes often have a faint fragrant smell that you can easily detect when sniffing.
  • Tomatoes with stems still fresh and not wilted are fresh tomatoes.
  • You should avoid buying shriveled, overripe, rotten, or bruised tomatoes and should not choose tomatoes with bumpy skin, uneven color, or tiny white spots.

How to choose good tofu

  • You should choose tofu pieces that feel light in hand, have good elasticity, and are very smooth.
  • To buy fresh, pure tofu, you should smell the aroma of the soybeans when purchasing. If you notice the characteristic smell of soybeans and taste a rich flavor, then you should buy it.
  • Avoid choosing tofu pieces that have a lime smell as this indicates that the tofu contains impurities; when eaten, it will feel dry, crumbly, and bland.
  • You should not choose tofu pieces that are dry, hard, crumbled, or have a sour smell because they may be spoiled tofu.

How to prepare Tomato Seaweed Soup

  • Prepare the ingredients

    First, use a knife to cut the tofu into bite-sized cubes, about the size of a finger segment, then place the cut tofu on a plate.

    Wash 4 tomatoes with water, then cut them into wedges, while peeling the onion, washing it clean, and dicing it.

    After peeling, mince the garlic. Remove the stems from the chili, rinse briefly with water, then slice.

    Wash the green onions and dill, then cut them into pieces about 2 finger segments long. Finally, cut the seaweed into small pieces, about 1 finger segment long.

  • Cook tomato seaweed soup

    You place a pot on the stove, add the cut tofu into the pot, then pour in 1 liter of boiling water to briefly boil the tofu to expand.

    After the pot of tofu boils for about 3 minutes, you pour the tofu into a sieve to drain the water.

    Next, add the drained tofu back into the pot with 1 liter of boiling water and continue to place it on the stove to cook the soup over high heat.

    Add 2 teaspoons of vegetarian seasoning, 1 teaspoon of sugar, and 1/3 teaspoon of salt into the pot.

    When the soup boils, add the cut tomato wedges into the pot, then continue to cook over low heat.

    You can adjust the seasoning to your taste and skim off the foam to make the soup clear.

    Next, add sliced chili and onion into the pot. Finally, add seaweed and minced garlic to the soup.

    Lastly, squeeze half a lemon into the pot to add sourness to the soup, and you can adjust the amount of lemon according to your family’s taste.

    You add 2 teaspoons of cooking oil to the pot to create shine, making the soup look more appealing.

    Finally, add all the dill to the pot, season again, and turn off the heat.
