How to choose good sweet potatoes
- Choose sweet potatoes that are intact, not cracked or chipped. When held, the sweet potato should feel heavy, firm, and not bruised. Avoid buying overly large sweet potatoes as they tend to be fibrous; medium-sized ones are the best.
- If you want to buy sweet potatoes that are starchy, fragrant, and fluffy, choose those with a layer of powder or soil on them.
- Be careful if you see sweet potatoes with black spots or pitting, as this indicates that they have gone bad.
Notes when preparing meals for babies
- Do not use salt or sugar for children under 1 year old.
- Divide meals into smaller portions for babies during weaning; do not let them eat too much at once.
- This porridge can be prepared for children from 7 months old and up.
- For children who are slightly weak with eating, they should be 12 months and older to eat this.
- To make it easier for babies to digest, you can puree the ingredients before adding them to the porridge.

Prepare the oats
Flat oats should be placed in a bowl, covered with water, and rinsed thoroughly twice. You should rinse the oats just like you would rice.
After rinsing, add 200ml of clean water to the bowl and soak the oats until soft for about 20 – 30 minutes.
-
Prepare the sweet potato
While the oats are soaking, wash the sweet potato thoroughly. Then peel the sweet potato and cut it into small cubes.
-
Cook the porridge
After about 30 minutes, pour the soaked oats and diced sweet potatoes into the pot. Turn on medium-low heat and cook for about 15 minutes until the sweet potatoes and oats are soft.
When the sweet potatoes and oats are soft, add 1 egg yolk into the pot and stir well to mix the egg into the porridge. Cook the porridge for another 2 minutes and then turn off the stove.
Scoop the porridge into a bowl and let the baby eat. If your baby is small and has difficulty digesting, you can blend the porridge until smooth before feeding.
