How to choose good brown rice

  • There are many types of brown rice such as black brown rice, white brown rice, red brown rice (dragon blood rice),… Depending on the intended use, you can choose the appropriate type. For this tea recipe, you should prioritize choosing brown rice or dragon blood rice!
  • To buy good fresh brown rice, when purchasing, you should choose rice with whole grains, not broken, and the grains should be shiny. Additionally, when touching the rice, it feels slightly rough due to the bran layer surrounding the brown rice.
  • Avoid buying old rice that has weevils, as this rice is old and no longer nutritious.

How to choose green heart black beans

  • Green heart black beans are smaller than regular black beans, only about double the size of green beans, and have a shiny black outer skin with a light green interior.
  • To buy good black beans, you should choose beans that feel firm when held, and when squeezed gently, they should feel dense. When brought to your nose, they should have a fragrant, characteristic smell of beans, with no strange odors.
  • You should not buy beans that are uneven in size, have shriveled seeds, or pale colors. Additionally, avoid purchasing black beans that have a white powdery coating, show signs of mold, or have weevils.

How to prepare Brown Rice Black Bean Tea

  • Roast brown rice and beans

    First, place 100g of brown rice into a pot and roast the rice on low heat for about 10 – 15 minutes, until the rice releases a fragrant aroma and the grains expand. Next, transfer the rice to a sieve to cool.

    Then, add 50g of black beans to a pan, also roasting the black beans on low heat for about 5 – 10 minutes, until they emit a fragrant aroma, then transfer them to the sieve with the roasted brown rice to cool.

    Note:
    • To ensure that the brown rice and black beans are evenly cooked and fragrant, you should roast the rice and beans on low heat and stir continuously while roasting.
    • Do not preheat the pan before roasting as it may cause the rice to burn and not cook evenly.

  • Cook brown rice and black bean tea

    Place a pot on the stove, add 1 liter of filtered water along with the roasted brown rice and black beans, then cover and cook for about 10 minutes, until the water boils, then turn off the heat.

    Keep the lid on and let the rice and black beans steep in the pot for 2 – 3 hours until the beans and rice are soft, until the tea water cools gradually.

  • Filter brown rice and black bean tea

    After the tea water has cooled down and the rice and beans are soft, pour the tea through a sieve to filter out the liquid.

    Finally, pour the tea into a bottle; you can add some ice cubes or put the tea in the refrigerator to make it more delicious!

    Tip: You can use the leftover beans and brown rice to cook porridge or eat instead of white rice in a weight loss diet!
