How to make Fried Pumpkin Cake with Glutinous Rice Flour

  • Prepare and steam the pumpkin

    Use a knife to peel the pumpkin, wash it thoroughly, and drain it in a basket. Next, cut the pumpkin into thin slices so that it cooks faster when steamed.

    Place the pumpkin in a steaming pot over high heat for about 10 minutes.

  • Mix the cake batter

    After steaming, transfer the pumpkin to a bowl and mash it with a spoon. Then add 50g of sugar and 4 tablespoons of condensed milk to the mashed pumpkin.

    Mix the ingredients well until the sugar is completely dissolved, then gradually add 400g of glutinous rice flour, adding it slowly while mixing continuously.

    Once all the glutinous rice flour is added to the bowl, knead the mixture by hand until it forms a smooth dough that no longer sticks to your hands. Cover it with a thin cloth or dry towel and let it rest for 15 minutes.

  • Shaping the cake

    Use your hands to mold the dough into bite-sized pieces, you can shape the cake round or flatten it according to your preference! Then, roll the dough in white sesame and place it on a plate.

  • Frying the cake

    Put a pan on the stove, add 4 tablespoons of cooking oil to the pan and turn on medium heat. Wait for the oil to heat up, use chopsticks to poke into the pan and see bubbles rising, then add the cakes.

    Fry each side of the cake for about 3 – 5 minutes until golden brown, then flip the cake over and fry the other side until golden. Once the cakes are golden fried, remove them to a plate to drain excess oil.

How to Make Fried Pumpkin Cake with Flour

  • Prepare and Steam the Pumpkin

    Peel the pumpkin, remove the inner seeds, and wash it thoroughly. To help the pumpkin cook more easily, cut it into small pieces.

    Put the pumpkin in a pot and steam it over high heat for about 15 minutes. Use chopsticks to press down on a piece of pumpkin; if it easily breaks apart, it is cooked.

    Transfer the pumpkin to a bowl and mash it with a spoon while it is still hot.
