How to choose quality chicken
With live chickens
- You should choose chickens that move actively and are lively. Avoid buying those that appear sluggish, nodding, with their tails slightly drooping and moving slowly.
- Quality chickens will have smooth and shiny feathers. If the feathers are frizzy, the head feathers are standing up and slightly damp, then it is definitely a sign that the chicken is sick.
- Chickens with tightly shut eyes, runny eyes and nose, wheezing breath, bruised and swollen legs, and combs that are pale purple or blackish are not worth buying as these are signs of sick chickens.
With processed chickens
- Good chickens will have a moderate size and weight, avoid buying those that are too small or too large to prevent mistakenly buying underdeveloped chickens or those that have been pumped with water.
- You should choose those with thin skin and a characteristic golden color. The meat should have a natural pink color, without any bruises. When touched, it should feel smooth and have good elasticity.
- To ensure quality, it is best to buy from reputable places. Especially, check carefully the information about the expiration date and origin of the chicken printed on the packaging.
