Have you thought about what gift to give for the upcoming November 20th? If not, let’s join the Cooking Tips section of TasteVN to learn some great tips on making beautiful dried flowers that last long for this holiday!
1 How to make natural dried flowers
Making dried roses with wind
Ingredients and tools
- Fresh roses: 10 stems
- Cardboard: 1 piece
- Vase: 1
- Scissors: 1
- Tape: 1
- Clothes hanger: 1
Steps to follow
Step 1: Preparation
For newly purchased roses, use scissors to trim off some leaves and cut off the thorns of the roses. Additionally, you can utilize roses already displayed in a vase, just cut off a little at the wilting base!
Step 2: Hang the flowers upside down
After preparing the roses, gather all the flowers together, use cardboard to wrap around the stems so that it’s easy to hold.
Next, use tape to securely attach the bouquet to a hanging hook and hang the roses upside down in a cool, dry place for about 5 – 7 days.
Final product
The roses after drying are slightly darker compared to fresh roses, and if you smell them lightly, they still have a faint fragrance carrying a unique beauty that is no less than fresh roses.
Now you just need to find a beautiful vase and arrange the flowers in it, or you can wrap the flowers and decorate them as a gift for your teachers, which will be very meaningful!
Making dried flowers with sea sand
Ingredients and tools
- Fresh flowers: 10 stems (optional)
- Sea sand: 500gr
- Vase: 1
- Box/jar: 1
Steps to follow
Step 1: Preparation
Depending on your preferences, you can choose to buy any type of flower you like, whether it has many petals or few petals, or is thin. Alternatively, you can also utilize flowers that are currently displayed in your home to make dried flowers.
Then, cut off the excess leaves and thorns (for thorny flowers like roses) and trim the flower stems to fit proportionately in the vase.
Step 2: Fill the flowers with beach sand
For flowers with small, few, and thin petals, first, fill about 1/3 of a box or jar with beach sand.
Then, place the flower at a slight angle, and slowly pour the beach sand to fill under the petals first. Next, sprinkle small amounts of sand between the flower stems until completely filled.
For flowers with many petals or larger flowers, hold the flower upright and similarly sprinkle sand at the bottom of the petals first. Then sprinkle sand from the outside and inside along each petal.
Let it sit for about 1 week or add another 2 – 3 days for the beach sand to dry the flower petals, then pour out the sand, and use a small brush to gently remove any remaining sand from the petals before decorating!
Final product
The dried flower petals maintain their original shape without shrinking, and the colors of the flowers remain bright and beautiful. This will definitely be a great way for you to utilize fresh flowers again, making meaningful gifts for November 20!
2 How to make dried flowers using silicagel
Ingredients and tools
- Fresh flowers: 10 stems (optional)
- Silica gel: 500g
- Vase: 1 piece
- Box/jar: 1 piece
Steps to perform
Step 1: Preparation
Depending on your preference, you can choose to buy any type of flower you like or you can also use flowers that are displayed at home to make it.
Next, cut off the flower stems, keeping only the flower head and a few leaves below the petals. Remove any damaged or wilted petals!
Step 2: Making dried flowers from SILICA Gel
Pour silica gel into the container first, about 1/3 of the box. Then, stand the flower upright inside, keeping the flowers spaced apart.
Next, slowly pour silica gel from the inside out, filling in between the flowers. Keep doing this for each flower until all are completely filled.
Finally, seal the box tightly and place it in a dry, cool place for 4 – 5 days, and it will be completed. Gently brush off any gel remaining on the petals.
Finished product
The dried flowers have beautiful colors, especially the petals still retain their original shape and do not become wilted, losing the flower’s form.
You can put the flowers into small jars, tie a ribbon around the jar, and you have a cute little gift that your teachers will be happy to receive from you!
3 How to make dried flowers using a microwave
Ingredients and tools
- Fresh flowers: 10 stems (optional)
- Desiccant powder: 500g
- Microwave: 1 piece
- Box/jar: 1 piece
Steps to perform
Step 1: Preparation
First, cut off the stems and leaves, keeping only the flower head.
Next, pour a little desiccant powder into a plastic container (it is recommended to use heat-resistant containers), insert the flower, and slowly sprinkle the desiccant powder onto the petals until the flowers are completely covered.
During this process, remember to hold the flowers steady to avoid them shifting, otherwise the finished product won’t look good!
Step 2: Drying flowers in the microwave
Place the plastic container inside the microwave, set it to “high” (or “large,” depending on the model), and let it dry for 2 minutes, then turn off the microwave and take the container out.Pour out all the desiccant powder and take out the flower, and you’re done.
You can reuse this desiccant powder for your next flower-making session!
Finished product
So you’ve completed your dried flowers. The colors are vibrant, and the petals still look wonderfully “blooming.” What are you waiting for? Try making dried flowers using a microwave and give them to your friends and teachers!
