Ingredients for Fruit Jelly Balls Serves 6 people
Longan 150 gr (1/2 bunch) Blueberries 100 gr Raspberries 100 gr Grapefruit 100 gr ( 1/4 fruit) Ripe mango 100 gr (1 fruit) Orange 100 gr (1 fruit) Jelly powder 30 gr Water 300 ml
How to choose fresh and delicious fruits
Longan
- The freshest longan fruits are those that are still tightly attached to the branch and are sold in clusters at markets and supermarkets.
- To select the best longan clusters, choose those with green leaves firmly attached to the branch. They should emit a sweet, pleasant, and distinctive aroma when sniffed.
- Do not buy longan fruits that have a too-smooth, shiny skin, have fallen from the branch, and do not have any fragrance when sniffed. These fruits may have been artificially ripened, and although the flesh is thick, it will not be sweet.
- In addition, when purchasing, you should also pay attention to the overall appearance of the longan cluster, avoiding clusters with many soft fruits or any signs of rot, drying, or insect infestation.
Blueberries
- Since it is an imported fruit, when buying blueberries, you should choose to purchase them at reputable supermarkets and imported fruit stores to ensure their origin and quality.
- In addition, when buying, you should choose blueberry boxes with many fruits that have dark purple or bluish-purple skin. One end has a stem while the other end has the calyx and is covered with a characteristic white powder on the outer skin.
- Avoid purchasing blueberry boxes that are not intact, lacking anti-counterfeit labels, information about their origin, and expiration dates. This is because these blueberries may not have passed customs inspection and could affect health and taste.
Grapefruit
- You should choose grapefruits with shiny, firm skin, slightly yellowish, round shape, and feel heavy when lifted.
- Additionally, to choose sweet and delicious grapefruits, you should look at the skin and select those with many bumpy spots on the skin. The larger the bumps, the older, riper, and sweeter the grapefruit will be!
- Another tip for women when buying grapefruit is to tap the skin with your fingers. If you hear a “click-click” sound, the skin will be thin and meaty, but if you hear a “thud-thud” sound, the skin will mostly be thicker and not tasty.
- Avoid choosing grapefruits with small, thick bumps, as these fruits are still unripe, and the taste will be very sour, not suitable for making this fruit jelly dessert.
Orange
- Good oranges usually have a bright, shiny yellow skin, fresh, and when held, they feel heavy. This is because these fruits are juicier and sweeter.
- In addition, good oranges will have a straight, upright shape, not deformed or uneven when placed on a flat surface. The skin around the stem is raised higher and thicker than other areas, and the skin is not rough and dry.
- Do not choose fruits that are too green or have more than half of their surface area green. These are early-harvested oranges that are not ripe enough or sweet.

How to make fruit jelly balls
-
Prepare the fruit
All fruits should be washed clean with water after purchase. Remove the skin and seeds from the longan, only keeping the flesh. Rinse the blueberries and raspberries and let them drain.
Peel the mango, cut it into small dice that can fit into the jelly mold.
For grapefruit and oranges, remove the skin, take the segments, and break them into small pieces that fit the jelly mold, about the size of a finger joint.
Tip:For the fruits used to make fruit jelly, you can flexibly choose the types of fruits that your family loves!
-
Boil the jelly
Add 300ml of water and 30g of jelly powder to a pot and cook on high heat, stirring continuously for about 4 minutes until the water boils and the jelly powder is completely dissolved, then turn off the heat.
Tip:If you prefer sweeter jelly, you can add 30g of sugar and stir until dissolved before adding the jelly powder!
-
Pouring the jelly mold
You place the flat side of the round jelly mold without holes facing up on the table, then gradually add your favorite fruits like raspberries, blueberries, lychee, orange, grapefruit,… into each round groove on the mold.
Next, you use the other side of the mold with holes to cover it and secure it to create a complete round jelly mold.
Then, you use a large syringe to fill it with hot, boiled jelly water through the small holes on the part of the mold that is covered. Do the same with the remaining holes.
Finally, you place the round jelly mold in the refrigerator for about 1 hour until the jelly sets, then you can take it out and enjoy.
