How to choose fresh green squash – winter melon
- To buy the sweetest and freshest green squash, you should choose to buy them during the season from May to September.
- When buying green squash, you should choose medium-sized, plump, and fresh green ones. When held, they should feel firm and heavy, with a thick and chubby stem. These are young squash that have a distinctive sweet taste.
- Avoid buying green squash that are black or dark-colored as these are mature ones, which usually have many seeds and tend to taste sour.
How to choose fresh pork
- When buying pork, you should choose the freshest and most appealing pieces with light pink or light red meat, and the fat should be translucent white with a slight ivory tint.
- Good quality meat must have good elasticity, a dry surface, and a characteristic meat aroma, rather than a foul or unpleasant smell.
- Avoid buying frozen pork or pieces with purple bruises or white grains resembling rice on the surface, as these are signs of diseased pork.
