How to choose delicious fresh grapefruit

  • Grapefruit skin: You should choose fruits with tight, shiny skin, evenly spaced thorns, and large thorn nodules. The outer skin should be intact without cracks or insect bites. You can lightly tap the skin of the grapefruit; if you hear a “clack clack” sound, it is advisable to buy it, as its skin is thin, the grapefruit is mature, and it is usually sweeter.
  • Shape: Grapefruit should be selected for those that are evenly round and not misshapen. You should choose heavier fruits, usually weighing from 1kg or more; smaller ones may still be immature grapefruit.
  • Grapefruit stem: It is best to choose fruits with stems, as these are fresh and new grapefruits.

How to choose fresh and delicious mangoes

For green mangoes:

  • Choose fruits that have a round waist, tapering towards the tail, with a green skin that is neither too dark nor too light.
  • Freshly picked mangoes will have a slightly wet stem, fresh, and still sticky with sap.
  • When buying, gently press on the fruit; if it feels hard, you should buy it, while if it feels soft, you should not.

For ripe mangoes:

  • Choose fruits that are golden yellow and feel firm in hand, with shiny and smooth skin, and the base of the mango stem slightly indented.
  • When lightly pressed, you should feel the firmness of the mango flesh; those that are not soft or bruised are the ripe and delicious mangoes.
  • Avoid purchasing mangoes that are darkened or have an extremely attractive appearance, as they may have been treated with chemicals or ripened using some method.
