How to choose fresh ingredients
How to choose fresh shrimp
- You should choose shrimp with a transparent shell, the tails of the shrimp are tightly closed, and the head and tail of the shrimp are still firmly attached to each other.
- Avoid buying shrimp that feel slimy when picked up, with the head falling off the body and the tail splayed out; these shrimp are not fresh and may have been injected with chemicals.
How to choose delicious crispy bell peppers
- Choose bell peppers that have a base divided into 3 sections; these bell peppers will be tastier, crunchier, and have a richer flavor when stir-fried compared to other types of bell peppers.
- Opt for those with a smooth, shiny, and firm surface and still have their stems, as these are fresh, newly picked fruits.
- Select fruits that are brightly colored and not too lightweight, as these will be fresh and rich in nutrients.
- Avoid fruits that are bruised, watery, have wrinkled skin, or wilted stems.
How to prepare Stir-fried Shrimp with Satay
-
Prepare the shrimp
After purchasing, cut off the antennae and rinse the shrimp clean with water 3 to 4 times to remove dirt and impurities.
-
Prepare other ingredients
Peel the onion, wash it clean, cut it in half, and then slice it thinly, about 1/2 finger width.
Peel the garlic, wash it clean, and let it dry before crushing it.
Remove the stem from the bell pepper, wash it clean, then cut it in half, remove the seeds, and slice it into bite-sized pieces.
-
Stir-fry shrimp
You add to the pan 1 spoon of cooking oil and cook on the stove over medium heat. When the oil is hot, add crushed garlic and sauté until fragrant.
Next, you add the cleaned shrimp into the pan and stir-fry for about 2 – 3 minutes until the shrimp is firm and turns red.
Add 1/2 – 1 jar of shrimp satay to the pan depending on your taste, then stir well. Add 1/4 teaspoon of salt, 1/3 teaspoon of sugar, 1/4 teaspoon of seasoning powder, and stir-fry for 1 – 2 minutes to let the shrimp absorb the seasoning.
Then, you add the sliced onion and stir-fry together with the shrimp for about 2 – 3 minutes, then add the diced bell pepper and stir-fry for another 3 – 5 minutes until the onion and bell pepper are cooked evenly, then turn off the heat and serve immediately on a plate.
