Squid tentacles 400 gr Garlic 1 bulb Shallots 3 bulbs Satay 3 teaspoons Cooking oil 3 teaspoons Oyster sauce 3 teaspoons Soy sauce 1 teaspoon Fish sauce 2 teaspoons Common spices a little (salt/ sugar/ ground pepper)

How to prepare Grilled Squid Tentacles with Satay

  • Prepare the squid tentacles

    To eliminate the fishy smell of the squid, place it in a small bowl. Then add 1 teaspoon of salt, use your hands to rub it well, and rinse with clean water, then let it drain.

    Next, cut the squid tentacles into bite-sized pieces and set them aside in a bowl.

    Tip: When cleaning the squid tentacles with salt, you should not rub for too long, and rinse thoroughly with water to avoid making the tentacles too salty, which will not taste good when eaten.

  • Marinate the spices

    Smash 1 clove of garlic, peel it, and mince it finely. Similarly, finely chop 3 shallots.

    Prepare a bowl, add 3 teaspoons of satay, 3 teaspoons of cooking oil, 3 teaspoons of oyster sauce, 2 teaspoons of white sugar, 2 teaspoons of fish sauce, 1 teaspoon of soy sauce, 1 teaspoon of ground pepper, along with the minced garlic and shallots, and mix well to combine the spices.

    Then, add the satay sauce mixture to the prepared squid tentacles, mix well, and marinate for about 20 – 25 minutes to allow the tentacles to absorb all the spices.

  • Grilling squid tentacles

    First, spread the marinated squid tentacles evenly on the baking tray and put it in the oven, grilling for about 15 minutes at a temperature of 180 degrees Celsius.

    Next, take the tray out, remove the excess liquid released from the squid tentacles, then put it back in the oven, continuing to grill at a temperature of 200 degrees Celsius for about 5 minutes so that the squid tentacles become firm and fully cooked.

    Finally, serve the grilled squid tentacles on a plate and get ready to enjoy.

    Tip:

    • Make sure to stabilize the temperature in the oven for about 10 minutes at 200 degrees Celsius before putting the squid in to grill.
    • If you don’t have an oven, you can also grill using charcoal or on the stove.

How to Make Grilled Squid Tentacles with Salt and Chili

  • Prepare the squid tentacles

    To clean the slime and remove the odor, put the squid tentacles in a small basin and add 2 teaspoons of salt. Use your hands to squeeze thoroughly and then rinse the squid tentacles with clean water. Repeat this process about 2 – 3 times, then rinse with a few times of water.

    After cleaning, use a knife to cut the squid tentacles into bite-sized pieces and set them aside in a basin, preparing for the marinating step.

    Tip: When cleaning the squid tentacles with salt, do not take too long, and rinse thoroughly with water to avoid the squid tentacles becoming too salty, which may not taste good when eaten.

  • Marinate squid tentacles

    Wash 10 chili peppers thoroughly, then place them in a mortar and pound them until finely crushed. After that, put the crushed chili into a bowl, add 5 teaspoons of salt and 1 teaspoon of monosodium glutamate, then mix well to create a chili salt mixture.

    Next, add the chili salt mixture to the bowl of prepared squid tentacles and mix well, marinating for about 20 – 30 minutes to allow the squid tentacles to absorb all the seasonings.

    Place aluminum foil on a plate and evenly spread the marinated squid tentacles on top. Then, put the plate of squid tentacles into a glass oven (or a conventional oven) at a temperature of 180 degrees Celsius for about 15 minutes.

    Next, take the squid tentacles out, turn them over on all sides, and put them back in the oven, continuing to grill for about 5 more minutes until the squid tentacles are fully cooked and firm.

    After grilling, arrange the grilled squid tentacles on a plate and get ready to enjoy.
