How to choose fresh durian

  • Shape: Fruits that are slightly uneven in shape will be of better quality than those that are large and round.
  • Stem: It is advisable to choose fruits with fresh stems and a strong aroma. You can gently press with your finger to test; if the stem feels wet, it is still fresh.
  • Durian spikes: Choose fruits with spikes that look fresh, green and firm, and are well-developed.
  • Durian flesh: Naturally ripened durian is very easy to separate, with a shiny yellow color, smooth and creamy consistency. In contrast, chemically treated durian is difficult to separate, and the flesh is often gritty and has a pale yellow color.
  • Aroma: Naturally ripened durian has a strong and fragrant smell that can be detected from a distance. On the other hand, chemically treated durian will not have the characteristic strong aroma, and sometimes may have no smell at all.

How to choose sweet jackfruit

  • For whole ripe jackfruit, you should choose fruits of moderate size, with the spikes on the skin fully opened, a strong aromatic smell, and a slight softness when pressed.

  • Preparing jackfruit and durian

    Remove the seeds from the jackfruit and cut the flesh into strips.
