How to make Fish Cake Porridge

  • Prepare ingredients

    After purchasing the snakehead fish, place it in a clean bowl, mash it evenly for about 5 minutes, then add 1 tablespoon of fish sauce, 1/2 teaspoon of monosodium glutamate, a little green onion, and 1/2 teaspoon of pepper.

    Mix all the ingredients so that the seasoning penetrates the fish meat, and mix until the mixture is sticky and cohesive.

    Soak the straw mushrooms in diluted salt water for about 10 minutes, then rinse with clean water, cut off the excess stem, and cut them in half for easy eating.

    Cut the green onions into sections, separating the green part to chop finely for sautéing with the mushrooms.

    Place a pan on the stove, wait for the pan to heat up, then add 1 bowl of white rice, proceed to roast until golden with low heat, then transfer to a bowl to cool down.

    Heat the pan on the stove, wait about 5 minutes for the pan to heat up, then add 1 tablespoon of cooking oil, once the oil is hot, add the pre-cut green onions and stir-fry until the onions are golden and fragrant, then add 500g of straw mushrooms and stir well.

    Shape the marinated fish into small round balls for steaming. Continue doing this until all the fish is used up.

    Tip: To prevent the fish cake from sticking to your hands while shaping and not sticking to the steamer, you can apply a layer of cooking oil on the gloves and the steamer surface.

    Arrange the fish cakes in the steamer, cover it, and steam for 10 – 15 minutes until the fish cakes are fully cooked.

    Put 1 cup of fried rice into the pot, then add 1 liter of filtered water, and cook for about 20 – 30 minutes until the rice grains are soft and swollen.

    Turn the heat down, then add chopped green onions to the pot, drop in the steamed fish cakes and stir-fried straw mushrooms, and cook together for another 10 minutes.
