How to choose fresh and delicious ingredients

How to choose fresh, non-fibrous taro

  • Choose round, smooth tubers with rough skin, plenty of roots, and some soil still clinging to the skin.
  • Good taro will feel light when held, as it usually has less water, a high starch content, and a rich, fragrant taste.
  • Avoid choosing taro with few depressions as these are not good and will taste bland.

How to choose fresh and delicious pork

  • You should choose meat that is light pink or light red in color, with the fat being slightly off-white.
  • Fresh and delicious pork will have good elasticity when you press it with your hand; after removing your hand, the meat returns to its original shape, and there are no dents on the surface of the meat.
  • Do not choose meat that is pale in color, has a foul smell, or is slimy, as these indicate spoiled or not fresh meat.
  • To ensure quality, you should buy whole cuts of pork, then ask the seller to grind it for you or grind it at home using a meat grinder.

How to make Minced Pork Taro Soup

  • Prepare the ingredients

Peel the taro, wash it clean, and cut it into small pieces.

Tip: How to peel taro without itching

    • Method 1: Wear nylon or rubber gloves when handling taro; be careful not to let your hands touch the taro directly.
    • Method 2: Wrap the taro in aluminum foil and microwave it for 2 minutes. This will help reduce itching when peeling and make the skin easier to remove.
    • Method 3: Place the taro in a pot, add 200ml of water and 1 teaspoon of salt. Bring the pot to a boil, then pour out the water and soak the taro in cold water before starting to peel.

Green onions and cilantro are trimmed at the root, washed clean, and then chopped finely using a knife. Ground pork bought is placed into a bowl.
